Anyone else hoping Buddy wins the Brownlow? What a story that will be.

I'd like to see a non midfielder win the Charlie. It's become the best midfielder's award.

Still scratching my head how the Saint smashed Fremantle.

Is it a coincidence the Freo end of season trip is flying first class to the Maldives? I think not.

Interested in others' thoughts on suggestions restructuring the fixture.

It was suggested that each team plays each other once and is then broken into groups of 6 and their remaining games are made up by playing the teams in their group, ie bottom 6, middle 6, top 6.

I like the theory and it would make for some fantastic games, but is it practical? Could it lead to teams manipulating their early season as to get an easier run home?

Teams would have to be eligible for finals even if they are in the bottom group, so they have something to play for. Similarly, teams could get lucky/unlucky and finish in the middle or top by a small margin and then get a much easier run home and leapfrog some teams in the higher up groups.

Thoughts?

A "rolling" fixture won't happen. The AFL likes everything bedded down at the start of the year so people can book flights and accommodation etc in advance for traveling interstate and what not.

I like the system. It's a good one.

We win the first final and we probably play Hawthorn twice instead of Richmond too.

Altogether too complex, and adds even more inequality to the fixture. Really, the ideal system is 20 clubs, 19 rounds, one visit to each state for Victorian teams and H/A rotating each season.

Can be fatal in the final round!

Seriously though, Gold Coast is probably the best shout for a non-favourite to get up. Giants (depending on available players) over the Dogs is the next.

I am the same, but it's a winner take all so I have to have a crack at it, either Gold Coast or Port or maybe both.

Port are a chance against Freo with no Barlow, Fyfe and maybe Pavlich.

I am one behind the leader who is a Dogs fan so I am thinking I should pick the Giants in the last match of the year and sit back and watch them run all over the Dogs, that would be quite entertaining.

It sort of depends on pay out structure, think whether it's top heavy or a more flat pay out structure should factor in. If it's just a free comp then 100% take the high variance route but if there's a decent drop from 2nd to 3rd money wise might be worth going the low variance route.

1st - $230
2nd - $150
3rd - $70

so yeah, only a small comp but currently there's only one point separating 1st, 2nd & 3rd. if I drop a point then equal 2nd splits the $220 = $110 each. but if I get it right, me and the guy in first get $190 each
