Possibly Picken, he wouldn't be used to the off field stuff but could probably handle it.

Picken could be a Richie Vandenberg type captain. Someone you know isn't going to captain a premiership side, is not the best player in the side, but sets an example as a damn hard worker who is more than willing to sacrifice his game for the team. A real "club first" type of player, and that mentality of wanting to put the club first should hopefully rub off on those new (or relatively new) to the system.

It allows the developing leaders to develop as both players and leaders without the burden of captaincy until such time one of them can't be denied the role any longer.

I have no sympathy for the predicament that the Dogs find themselves in.

Peter Gordon is weak as piss.

He's basically said Macca did nothing wrong, but old players are upset that he does things differently than kiss their arseholes.

I hope our club comes out and makes a statement on behalf of the other clubs, time to become the vindictive pricks we all want us to be.

He's got to say that because his review found that McCartney should stay.

McCartney is not being sacked because of Griffen, it's too late for that as Gordon burned that bridge last night.

What they've found is that the coach is not popular and they can't afford someone getting in the ear of a Stringer or Bontempelli because the members and fans would go absolutely ******* if they haven't already.

Reports suggest the younger players were fine with him, it's the older players, the exact same that complained about Acker telling them what it takes to be successful, that were strung up by Macca telling them the same thing.

Leading Teams has destroyed that club, very close to doing the same to the Pies too.

It is an interesting notion. Changing the leadership style and culture of a place can be quite effective in some situations, but if not properly implemented or if not everyone buys in it can leave a place horribly fragmented.

I wonder if a few clubs with cultures perfectly conducive to high performance bought into the hype surrounding Leading Teams and underwent changes that weren't necessary.

It's funny how the media aren't as scornful as they were when we sacked Knights.

None of the First Ladies of Football barrack for the club he played for. Or have their nose out of joint at having a mole kicked off the Bulldogs board.

"Mummy, the mean man said I don't run hard enough to defend. Tell him I do!!!"

"Yes, he's very bad, never you mind sweetums"

So has the fauxtrage kicked off about Collingwood not 'doing the right thing' by Beams yet? And as good as he is, at least Brisbane haven't completely taken the piss with their offer either.

This x 1000..

One rule doesn't fit all.. and Leading Teams is a specific approach.. that quite frankly I'm surprised it worked in one club.. let alone the 4-5 that swear by it.

Although it does suit the Gen Y's perfectly.. walk into a club and from day 1 you have 'equal say' as the bloke who is captain and been playing AFL for 15 years.. seems like a good system!

There is honest feedback and then there is having to listen to some pimply 19 year old tell a 30 year old veteran how best to become 'elite'.. I'm sure that Fletcher is real keen to hear Steiny tell him how to 'go about it'...

To be fair I think Fletch would be pretty good about it and let him have his say. (Not that I agree if Steiny ever did such a thing).

Yeah.. realise it was a bad example.. Fletch would keep munching on his vegemite toast going 'mmm' 'ah huh'.. righto, got to be off.. good chat mate.

Apparently Quinny tried to teach Fletch how to spoil once.. and got a bit put out that he didn't take the positive feedback well...

Q'eh? :drunk:

Have my doubts about Leading Teams and similar programs. Interesting that Mooney called the Bulldogs senior players soft. These same senior players make critical errors in close games - Bulldogs should ship out another 1 3 of the senior players.

I am expecting Fletch to roll up to pre season with a full pony tail now

The programs are fine in some situations, the trouble is much like our supplements program its likely no independent consultations were done to see if the program is appropriate and to make sure it is rolled out properly. If a club tries to implement a one size fits all leadership package that half the team is dubious about then the results will be pretty underwhelming.
