Not that we didn't know it already, but damn Port's depth is crap.

What do you expect when they have 2 players conditionally suspended and the AFL haven't done anything to support them with top-ups!?!?!?!?!? It's so unfair.

should have played port in nab challenge

They are literally missing their ten best players.

Probably like 15 out of their best 22. Though that is irrelevant, you analyse the contests inside the contest. Looking at individuals efforts; positioning, kicking and general contesting were dreadful. Krakouer was the only player not in their best 22 who showed anything.

Obviously I haven't watched the game and it's only NAB challenge and it's only stats but if I was a Melbourne fan at the top of my wishlist for the pre-season would be the emergence of my two most highly credentialed young ball carriers/users.

24 touches each to, the much maligned, Toumpas and the steak knives in the deal with the number two pick, Salem, must be pleasing reading for a fan base that has not had much to be pleased about.

Obviously the loss of Petracca is terrible for 2014 but on paper the future midfield core at the Dees (Tyson, Viney, Salem, Toumpas, Petracca and Brawshaw) is looking prettay, prettay good.

Just want to see Hogan catch a few close to goal now.

I can't remember seeing less intensity in NAB Challenge games - Guys have barely being going at 50%.

Scathing article attacking how poor the standard of footy is a good read.

Pathetic that clubs merely use them as a hit and giggle whilst still charging full gate prices for VFL standard football

The only winners in the NAB are the schools that receive a bucket load of Sherrin Footballs.

And even then there isnt even many of them anymore, players dont go for the supergoal.

I've actually really enjoyed the NAB Challenge. Watched every televised game ahead of the CWC and enjoyed them, even if teams aren't going 100%.

At the end of the day, people are gullible and willing enough to pay full price for VFL quality football and the AFL will sit back and laugh as they count coins. If you don't think it's worth the price, you just don't go. I certainly don't.

I tried to watch the Geelong Adelaide game the other day and honestly I was bored out of my brain. I think the game is officially on a downward spiral. Over officiated with such a heavy emphasis on fitness and game plans suited towards that is making the game very unpleasant to watch.

I'm getting much more enjoyment from sports like gridiron, basketball and soccer.

Hard to disagree with this, sadly. I pine for the less structured and rigid days of the 1990s in a lot of ways.

I found it so much better to watch back then.

My favourite Football to watch was when Geelong were the powerhouse of the comp. Running link up handball from end of the ground to the other. Was fast paced and exciting to watch (for me).

The kicking game of Hawthorn that slowly took over as they play keepings off, whilst i appreciate the skills required i find boring. However sometimes when they pull the trigger and move up the field with 3-4 kicks that break open the entire opposition zone i feel myself enjoying it.

Its why I did actually enjoy watching Port last year (despite me not liking the team itself due to being media darlings). The high risk high reward run and gun style seems to be what i favour.
The talk of this offseason seems to be attack attack attack, so im hoping we see less defensive teams this year.

This.

I watch 3 sports. NHL/NBA/AFL and the AFL is now bottom of the list of sports I enjoy watching live and online.

I tell you what, there are going to be fewer and fewer 'easy' games.

Young St Kilda and depleated Dogs would be the only games I'd dare pencil in at this stage.

Carlton and Collingwood are always basically flips of a coin because of the rivalry.

I think Melbourne will improve significantly or at least will be able to draw teams like us deep into a scrap which we don't deal with well.

My biggest concern is that the weaker teams tend to expose our major weakness in terms of dynamic ball winning. I hazard to classify GC and GWS weaker but they did finish below us in 2014. Adelaide can be explosive around the ball and no matter the circumstances Richmond also make us look pedestrian around the ball for large parts of our matches.

Obviously we haven't seen enough of our A-team to work out where we are at but there has been a disappointing lack of pressure put on by some of the younger guys who had a good opportunity to press a case for selection.

The concerning part of it all is that Cooney aside nothing has really changed. My expectations for 2015 are plummeting.
