Yeah but Rockliff isn't one of the boys who we just love.

Really disappointing, I thought they just loved the footy on Seven

To be fair, they are commentating the Dangerfield game...

Nope. The pick we gave them was used for Shane Biggs.

Who played for the Bendigo Bombers - Our VFL team has been a great developer of talent - Biggs/Redpath/Campbell/Redpath at the Bulldogs.

Forgot about Dickson - And of course Tippa and Ambrose - Reckon there are another one or two.

You know you have serious issues when Josh Hill is your hardest working player on the field.

I know that their wins have come against us and Brisbane but I can see things turning for Freo very quickly from here.

The really interesting part of all of this will be to see what sort of players Lyon would prefer to build a style around. We're getting a pretty good insight. In the past his instructions have been to throw everything into winning a premiership which limits the scope for development.

It's wishful thinking to assume that a guy smart enough to reinvent the way the game is played, and almost pinch flags in the process, is not smart enough to develop a team.

It's a shame for Pav, in particular, but I think next time around the Freo side will have a much better balance - most importantly a much more dangerous forward line. I'm assuming that they'll sign McCarthy at the end of the year. Unlike Pav, he'll have proper support and a decent structure to work in.

While Taberner is not necessarily going to be a 50 goal a year forward, at 197cm with a massive engine and good hands, he looks like what was missing as the all important conduit to Pav and Walters in the 2013 to 2015 sides. He has 3 or 4 elite AFL attributes for a KPF so I would not place too many limitations on what he can be capable of.

They'll probably look to develop Apeness as a key forward/second ruck rather than persist with two genuine rucks in each side.

In defence Alex Pearce and Collins will compliment Johnson for the rest of his career, though they'll need to find a third tall defender.

There is more run and class in a midfield which includes Weller, Blakely, Sheridan, Crozier and Langdon to add to the star power of Fyfe, Bennell and Hill and the grunt of Mundy, Neale and Barlow. Tucker has looked pretty comfortable at the level from what I have seen. Balic is a smart mid-sized forward/big bodied midfielder.

They've got a lot competent soldiers in their mid to late 20s (players like Ibbotson, Sutcliffe, Spurr and even De Boer or Suban).

The perceptions is that history tends to repeat itself, because it is an interesting story, but it's usually a selective analysis. Fremantle learned from the mistakes made by the Saints during their flag chase. They've taken first and second round picks for the 4 or 5 years before they traded for Bennell and have a whole new generation of players to use to evolve their side.

I think Freo has most of what it needs to climb back up the ladder and expect that they'll be back in contention in the next 12 months.
