I always felt that in light of recent events this proposed 'feel good story' for us was never going to get over the line. Would've been great for my daughter to see. She loves footy at the moment and I want to keep that fire burning. Every week she asks me if the Bombers won and when I tell her no, she hates it.

I don't want to lie to her, but damn it I'll lie if it keeps her following Essendon.

The AFL are clearly not ready for Essendon to join and feel it's too soon after the saga to go ahead with it. EFC will surely be one of the first cabs off the rank next time around.

Yep. The clubs that missed out (West Coast, North Melbourne, St. Kilda, Geelong) will be the next cabs off the rank considering they all have provisional licenses then it'll be Essendon and Hawthorn as the next priorities.

All in all Womens AFL is a great thing and I hope the greater footballing community gets around it. That being said there are clearly more important things to work on at the Essendon Football Club at this time.

When I was 13, I strained my calf early in the season and had to sit out four or five games. When I was right to go again, I was brought back through the Year 8 seconds. First game back, we played the Year 8 firsts from another school. Their team included a girl.

In true 13 year old fashion, at first we laughed.

Six goals and a few bruised egos later, everyone was laughing at us.

Girls can be ****ing good at football.

You don't watch a lot of women's sport do you?

Ok, womens cricket doesn't have the power, but it's not shite. Go play the Vic women's indoor team, they'll wreck you. Same for Women's hockey & soccer. There's a reason why we're ranked where we are in Basketball. As for netball, there's a reason why major channels have been chasing the viewing rights of late. It's fantastic to watch! Bloody brilliant sport!!

I can appreciate that when you compare men's football to women's you might feel like you're getting an inferior product because it's not as fast.
The thing is it's not about being the same thing. It's about embracing the sport for all.

Are you so close minded that you can't just enjoy it for what it is? No one's forcing you to like something but at least give it a chance.
