But why? What makes you say this?

Now that's an interesting question. Could a female player's son be drafted to the male league and vice versa?
Their body type allows the kicks that get more points more easily. That, and having sparred with the best male athletes my age and the best female athletes my age I was reasonably competitive with the males (only lost by 5 points mostly), whereas the females embarrassed me. Got the mercy rule equivalent (was 18-2 at the end of the second round)

I still don't really understand but tbf I don't know much about Taekwondo.
The way that males have an obvious advantage in terms of cricket (being able to bowl faster and hit the ball further) is the other way in taekwondo, flexibility is extremely important in the modern game.

Do we really care how a woman looks when they play sport? If they are elite in their field what does it matter what they look like? They could look overweight but if they can set a world record what does it matter? Athletes (both men and women) aren't there to look pretty.

What I'm curious about in terms of the Women's league is whether they change the father/son rule to a "parent/child" rule.
It's already gone to father-daughter with a single game qualification. Whether it rolls the other way, well, that's 15 years down the track.

Lethleen was on SEN this morning. Any daughter of an afl player who has played one game is entitled to father daughter listing. No other rules re mother/son have been determined because the existing rules of 100 games is just unrealistic with the short seasons.

It has been flagged with the commission that decisions need to be made.

God help us all..
mother/son rule: any potential player who's mother played a women's league game is eligible for NSW academies

Where do people think the next expansion will be? It won't be Tassie (because of population and the North/South divide reasons). Canberra and maybe WA 3?

There will be a team in Tassie.

Though I suspect it'll be North.

Why couldn't they split the games between Hobart and Launceston in any potential Tassie side? They've got two clubs now using their state split home games from Victoria FFS.

Getting back on point though, the AFL will probably grant the next license to Tassie for the women's league and say 'there you go, your own side, just like you wanted!' and that'll be the end of it.

But they'll be in the south? In all seriousness, what new teams will there be?

If Tasmania can support 7 games it can support 11 games.

Hobart- 6 games
Launceston- 5 games

Then swap the following season. I guess you could have their admin at whichever one could handle such a set-up better, but is that so big a deal? The other would still get basically half the games and there'd be plenty of clinics for the kids, etc. I'm not sure what else you'd want, from a fan's perspective?

The thing about Tassie is that the market isn't being diluted by other codes. If anything, the two teams currently playing home games in Tassie are the biggest hindrance to a team eventually being established, due to those fans becoming entrenched supporters of North and Hawthorn.

To people who consider North-South divide an actual thing that will prevent a team from being successful, I would like to refer you to the Hobart Hurricanes. People from all over the state go and watch this. And this team is even called Hobart. Tasmanians are generally very dumb people and I am one of them (Tasmanian not dumb). We will go and support/buy anything that we currently don't have and flock to it. The amount of people who buy Krispy Kremes in Melbourne airport and ship them over is something shocking. This North-South divide is just another thing the media are saying to prevent anymore talk of a team. The moment there is an A-League team, Netball or NBL team watch us pack the stands. They don't know what they have got till its gone. Small population doesn't mean anything, see Geelong (oh but Geelong is concentrated in one city and not dispersed). We filled Bellerive for North and Hawthorn are doing a pretty good job considering the terrible teams that have to come down here. Imagine that support but instead of the attendance 50/50 Rich/NM almost 100% for the Tassie team. I can tell you us ferals would make it the worst away trip in the League bar none.

TLDR: too bad

No, because women are better at taekwondo. It's as simple as that. Also the men kick slightly harder but I can tell you that women at the elite level can kick you and do significant damage. I've had bruised ribs from sparring with a woman before.

i disagree

One of our former ruckman Jonathan Giles will be making his debut for West Coast Eagles this weekend

It was a comment about susceptibility to injury. Not sure whether it is true but its not about aesthetics.

I'd love to see Tassie get a team, it's ridiculous that in a so called national competition, you don't have one.

We all know what it's really about; Tassie isn't growing rapidly population wise. Everything else is a smoke screen.

Will be interesting to see how it plays out with Brayshaw departing North to concentrate all of his time on being emasculated by Danny Frawley on Triple M if Brayshaw was indeed the driving force behind them not already being in tassie.

Especially given his post is being filled by a Tasmanian.

We don't need any more teams, the talent pool is spread thin enough as is.
The next expansion will be in 10 years time at the earliest.

THANK YOU!

Honestly some of these comments are awful. Ya know, bodies come in all shapes and sizes. I've seen plenty of women who some might consider fat but are athletic and fit and it honestly shouldn't matter.

Who the hell thinks it is ok to tell someone how their body should look? Just no.
