I will be watching for the federal govt bailoutAs I said previously. Now just watch for all of the other building that will occur.
You can bet your butt that people will be eyeing off pubs to build, restaurant leases, and definitely hotel groups will be in on this big time.
I think it's just a trap for modern democracies where we spend our lives being shocked by our own success that we think we can vote anything into existence.Maybe the vote came down to "Do you not want to not support a negative resolution for the question of denying the permit for the building of the stadium?"
They only had to pork barrel 3 independents out of like 9 to get it through the upper house. Not difficult in politics.
Going to be a bad time for sick or disadvantaged people in tassie for the foreseeable. No doubt the Liberals will be given the boot soon, and the incoming gov will be saddled with cleaning up their mess while the Liberals whine about the fiscal irresponsibility of it all.1.5 billion dollars for the TT-Line debacle, plus cash injections to keep them out of bankruptcy, another 1.5 billion for the stadium which has a fair chance of becoming a similar fiasco, on top of the state's poor debt position and its recent downgrading of its credit rating is going to be hard going for its, say, 300,000 taxpayers.
The government says it won't raise taxes, so the only other option is for it to cut funding in other areas.
Will be a 'fun' watch.

Labor seems borderline-unelectable in Tassie at the moment at state level.Going to be a bad time for sick or disadvantaged people in tassie for the foreseeable. Like the Athenians voting to go to war with Persia despite no one looking at a map
As someone who used to live in Tassie and still has a lot of family and friends there, it's always been a bad time to be sick or disadvantaged there. At least if you're sick but able, you can go to somewhere like Melbourne for treatment.Going to be a bad time for sick or disadvantaged people in tassie for the foreseeable.
Yeah eventually. I'm sure the Tasmanian state will get bailed out in the endExcept the Athenians actually defeated them.
Miggt be buckleys plan but the AFL aren't smart enough for that kind of conspiracyConspiracy Warning.... Is history repeating? Remember 1986 or look it up. Tom Hafey, ex Collingwood great is coach of Geelong. New club Syney.... Hafey becomes their coach, but also does deals to get several Geelong players to go with him. Greg Williams, Bernard Toohey, David Bolton and a couple of others I think. This was all very shady at the time. So is that the AFL plan?
The club is in a very different position now to then. We're now a club that does very well retaining players. We offer an environment in which most players feel comfortable and evidently enjoy being a part of. Not only that, but we frequently are sought after as an FA/trade destination for other players.Conspiracy Warning.... Is history repeating? Remember 1986 or look it up. Thing is Hafey was head coach and had a good amount of time to build a relationship with the players who went with him, Buckley won't be at the club long enough.
I did say this in jest. BTW, Chris Scott is selling his Geelong house... what does it all mean. The club is in a very different position now to then. I can't see too many players suddenly deciding they would prefer Tasmania to Geelong. First of all, it means giving up on that highly-valued Geelong environment and culture and secondly it involves moving to a small, cold state with not a lot going on to begin a football side from scratch. Tasmania is not Sydney. There is a possibility that some players not getting games are prised out, like O. Henry, or a native like Kolo goes back if he's still kicking around.
Overall, though, it's going to be a hard sell. Thing about Tassie is, it's small and quiet, but it's also an AFL state already. It's not like Sydney or QLD, where they can bask in relative anonymity. Their exposure will be amplified living in those small towns.
It would be a testament to Buckley's influence if turned players over to his side in that span of time, to the extent a number of players would ditch their other coaches and teammates to follow him to an island. I'd be more concerned about losing off-field assets like Lappin to be honest.
He's moving into a bigger house?I did say this in jest. BTW, Chris Scott is selling his Geelong house... what does it all mean.
