There were a few periods in the 3rd and 4th where half the team appeared to have a slack attack.Particularly noticeable in the 3rd and disturbingly it wasn't just the youngsters.
I remember it now though, Ethan just puts it to boot and across the body tumbles it 25 metres to be marked.
Lyon says failure is feedback.I like Cox being run down 15m from an open goal after having time,Big Sean flattened with the pill on the Roos 50,and Ethan's nano second misjudgement.
Intense, accelerated development bends the environment to your will apparently.

Finally watched the game properly and thought ryan's game went a bit unnoticed. Thought he was a bit of an unsung hero and competed well in place of spurr. He seemed to get loose a lot to provide an outlet out of the back half but also intercepted well putting his body on the line when it mattered too.
I didnt think he was anything special a couple of weeks back. He looked gassed out early and flustered at times but i reckon hes got what it takes to help marshall the troops back there once he gets some more games under his belt.
Its been said plenty before but skill and a bit of dare out of the backhalf is something every team needs and i think hes got it in spades.

Luke Ryan was super, underrated kick. Is going to be a jet coming off half back in years to come.

I'd be interested to know how many of his R50s (6) resulted in scores. His kicking really is a thing a beauty. Best long kick off half back at the club since Pav played back there, what, 15 years ago?
I swear he weighted the drop on one of his long kicks to take it up over the intervening opponents but bring the target forward to ball and keep it away from the North players trying to close it down.

Yeah he is a great kick. Haven't seen him really kick to a leading forward yet but based on his work in the back half so far would have to be up there with Sonny and Mundy. Has more penetration than Sonny.

Lyon has declared it as a priority and we'll see the consequence of that demand.
We will recruit and develop better kicks.
Full stop.
Nyhuis,Hughes,Ryan,Blakely,Logue....Weller,Tucker,Sonny...different tribe of footballers.
This will allow Lyon to develop the next game plan for the next set of AFL rules and our next flag attack.
Bennell of course can launch one 50 metres toward the forward pocket and when it's half way there decide there's a better option in the square and redirect the pill.

Who are you responding to?

It doesn't matter if it was technically a free or not... Its just bad umpiring because its not consistent with how ruck contests are normally umpired. Its like if they pinged a player in the last 30 seconds for dropping the ball in a tackle when they have ignored it all game and in every game.
Agreed and that was exactly my point.

Why suddenly pick out that one and ignore god knows how many similar incidents during the game?

Ryan is basically Spurr but with short and better kicking skills.. does the courageous marking stuff too, and keeps his opppent honest.
Agreed. Doesnt burn the ball.
The beauty of it all is hes a natural defender first with excellant foot skills who will always keep the opposition guessing when rebounding. Hes not a manufactured role player like sutcliffe, sherro or even weller & crozier who are more midfielders or half fwds. He has spurrs defend at all cost attitude but also has the ability to use the ball well and not make you cringe when hes got it. The long high ball down the line days have to stop in this day and age you just turn it over and give repeat inside 50's to the opposition.

No mention for Crozier who is in the top 5 kicks on our list?

I finally watched it too and thought the same thing. He stood up in the backline while Hamling was on one leg.

I watched the replay yesterday on my day off (i.e. 2nd time around, less emotion, could focus on what our players were doing instead of the opp and umps).

Crozier was big all game. Made some really good plays, strong tackling and defence. Started one of our end to end running goals with a strong contested intercept mark. Only made 2 mistakes all game. Dropped the high speccy when it bricked off his hands (not that many others would have got it or got up that high anyways), and did a poor kick down the wing that got turned over. I think he just doesn't get noticed because he looks so similar to a few other players. Even the commentators mistake him at least once each in the past two games. For someone that gets a fair few negative comments on here, if you actually watch his game, he doesn't deserve the negativity.

Tough gig in our forward line at the moment too.

I think most people agree he's best suited to playing off the defensive flank. Hopefully with the surprise advent of Nyhuis as an offensive threat he gets a bit more of an opportunity further down the ground.

I'm ok with Croz up forward, he's someone who can make something happen out of nothing and it gives him more freedom to back his creative instincts and fly for his marks.

People just need to have realistic expectations about that position and not expect him to rack up 25 touches a game.

Agree with this. I've always thought he provided better value up forward

Croz has a bit of Jeremy Howe to him, I just hope he doesn't have to go to another team to be played in a position where he's consistent

It's interesting, every time Crozier has the ball each game, at least once a commentator will say they're impressed with his season.

I don't think he's been terrible. I think he's been average with some really good patches.

Don't think he should be dropped but i think he needs to get more involved and get his hands on the ball more. I don't know which position suits him best but I think he's played more consistent footy at half back but looks more dangerous up forward.
