I've seen a few posts recently talking about priority picks for the blues

There is no way I can cop this club playing (and losing games) in order to get priority picks..

Look at how p....d off we all are at the last couple of weeks.. do we really want to see this side get clobbered for the rest of this season, and cop this pain, in order to get a few picks that may be ok in the future ?

There is no guarantee that the No1 pick in any draft will be a gun player.

If the current carlton players aren't running out on the field and trying their guts out to win, then we don't need them..

Dont worry, the blues will win 5 games for the year along with your draw and end up 2nd last and no PP. Then the AFL will do a salary cap audit and realise you cheated again and you will get banned from the draft, fined $1 million and spend another few years down bottom where you belong
Well that just got you banned from this board you ********en traitor scum. I've got nothing but contempt for a guy who switches teams when the going gets tough. Your opinion carries about as much weight as helium.

Yes, and Collingwood will finish bottom and will get players similar to Roach, Waterhouse and Johnstone while we will finish midtable and get the next Simon Black, J. Brown and Hird. Would not be surpised considering your recent history of trading and picking players from the draft.

Your fault for not reading ODNs sticky thread. We don't tolerate trolling here, you can do it on the main AFL board, but not here. You are what we refer to as "kill on site".

So long. Don't forget to take your Clokes and Shaws with you.

Too bad he doesnt get serviced properly by our midfield :(

Guys , I admire your attitude. To many clubs have Rorted an extra pick or two from simply playing dead. Its too hard to try, lets just play passive soft football and go again next year. Look at Richmond now, the system is crap. The main culprits being Saints, Dees and Dogs but even the West Coast have done it.Its legal, its the system and if you get a champion or not, there is no doubt that having two of the best top10 kids is better than one.All you have to do is be willing to sacrifice pride and face and yes you can get and extra R1 pick.
BUT its not the only way. The Cats have not had any Rort picks, they had pride , as you do, in trying even when you are not really up to it. Through selective choices , good development and a bit of luck with quality F/S's we are the side we are now. World beaters, NO, Stars, NO, but a side that will out there give our colours strong showing against anyone.
You are a proud club, you have some young talent that will be good. Jared Waite, looks very good IMO. Stevens is class. Find a backman and put time into the kids and you will find are not far away

this board is funny :)

but in all seriousness, you guys are probably closer to geelong of 2000 with ur draft picks than other clubs e.g. st kilda, bulldogs, who perennially suck until they have enough #1,#2, #3 picks. best chance right now, is to look for a strong draft & milk it like geelong did in 1999 & 2001. u guys still have some quality in fev, stevens & koutifides (sp?), and theres a lot of football experience/knowledge there to be passed onto the next generatio.

Who cares if we get a priority pick. God knows we need one! This is the AFL system. If you don't like it, you'll struggle to win premierships. Just have a look at the sides at the top of the ladder. Only a few years ago they were all crap. West Coast, Geelong, Melbourne, Richmond, St Kilda.....

I don't get ********ed off when we lose games, but seeing a handful of record losses every year is very frustrating. It's time to rebuilt the conventional way. It's time to tank!

Absolutely.

Goodbye Eddiesmith - brain surgeon, conspiracy theorist and a shining example of why when you occasionally feel some empathy for Collingwood coming on, you just can't do it.

My point was that out of this group we did not get Priority Pick. One can get enarmoured with the idea of the easy fix, everyone thinks they will pick up a Judd but its rare. For every player who becomes a star after being a PP theres heaps that were not.If you want to make a side from PP then stand by for 4-5 years of what happened Friday night 5 years of winning 5 games or less. There are players playing with teams every week that were late picks that clubs didnt need priority to obtain. Swans have J. Moore pick 31, Brisbane have J.Sherman pick 40 something.

That's not true. Look at all the premiership winners and finalists for the past several years, how many of them had players picked from top picks that made the difference? Just look at Collingwood - they finished 16th and 15th respectively in 1999 and 2000. And that failed them to win a premiership, in fact they've gone backwards.

It's a myth. Depends on your luck ... for instance your #1 pick might turn out to be the new Waterhouse, there are always gems deeper into the draft. Which is why pride should always come first over priority picks. The argument that finishing low will ensure you success in the future is a load of rubbish and has not been proven. By success I mean a premiership win.

Most of the good players playing today were picked under #10 in the draft. Have a team full of those guys instead of a few supersatrs and the rest ordinary players, that will give you a greater cahnce of a premiership. You just need a team effort - one or two players (especially young ones) cannot do it all themselves.

Believe me, all will be forgotten when you finish last and have guys like deldio, tambling, franklin, roughead running around for you. We put up with a lot of crap last year and justifiably so but so far this year, 2004 is forgotten.

Take the pain and enjoy the medicine next year guys. You need some classy young guys on that list. There is no other way out unless you trade fevola for some top line picks. There is no other worth trading.

That's kind of how I see it. When it comes to AFL, people have a short memory. All the praise that St Kilda get seem to conveniently ignore the fact that the AFL have propt them up for years with draft picks. On the other hand Essendon are being bagged for a lack of talent despite playing finals for the last 6 or so years. We will be bagged this year, but next season people will be envious of the young talent we have at the club. It's the crappy draft system. Like it, or forever be ********!

There is some credence to the thought of a pp and a first pick in the draft, if you could manage to do a Tigers or hawks from last year and pick up a raft of players early on it will give an instant injection of talented youth.
The downside of tanking ,or being perceived by fans to be tanking, is the loss of credibility that it gives your club. You want your team to be doing all it can to be winning games , a losing culture is a very very hard one to turn around as Pies have found pre 2002 , Tigers pre 2005, etc etc. Clubs can be buillt succesfully from credible mid table finishes with astute trading and drafting. I hope that Collingwood have this sorted out, last years draft looks ok at the moment.
Better to do it wisely and with pride than go into games with no thoughts of winning for me.
