Oh no doubt. But certainly in the AFL if you dont finish top 4. Who cares.

Least in the NRL the bottom 4 are generally competitive.

Umm top 5 could mean that a team could lose a finals match and then still win the comp???

Simple solution is to make ALL playoff games elimination. Once you lose, you're "gorne".

I've always thought both sports should play a Final 6 with all knock out finals:
First Week:
3 Vs 6
4 Vs 5

Second Week:
1 Vs Lowest Ranked Winner
2 Vs Highest Ranked winner

Third Week:
Grand Final

It won't happen due to less finals though.

I like top 5 ahead of a 6 because it gives a distinction between on 3 levels. 1st actually means something.

But we are stuck with an 8 obviously.

Can never go knock out, as we don't have enough teams. Needs a min of 10 or 12 depending on how you structure.

The above final 6 scenario would work, but yeah, 3 finals less = Will never happen

Using that logic it should be called the ARL/AFL/NRL system. I was referring to a lot of AFL fans and even some League fans that call it the "AFL System" because they think the AFL had it first. No need to swear buddy.

For many years we had a top 4 in 12 team comps, top 5 in 16. ie 1/3 of the comp made the post season.

There are arguments against going lower and we know it won't happen but "it will look ridiculous"?! L.O.L.

Storm Fan / AFL types. Who gives a flying who used it first, currently or whatever. No need to turn this into a cross code pissing match.

On the contrary, the comp would regain some credibility rather than look ridiculous.
And it's ALL about the dollars. TV rights are worth more with more finals game, which means the NRL gets more money and the TV stations get more money by selling advertising. You're kidding yourself if you think it's got one iota to do with the fans.

Actually. Not entirely true.

System we had was great. Lose a final = Punished

Last season = Broncos 3rd, win two finals, lose one, miss out on Grand Final
Warriors 6th, win two finals, lose one, make Grand Final.

McIntyre Final 8 System is the most stupidest system and I'm so happy that it is gone!

Now to get rid of Golden Point...
