You will have to excuse my ignorance all league fans but i was just wondering if anybody could please give me a few suggestions as to who may win the NRL Premiership this season. I do watch games when i can but in tassie we get them broadcast at terrible hours of the night so i miss a large proportiuon of the season although i do catch some on Fox Sports when possible.... Thanks guys:thumbsu:

The Melbourne Storm, the St George Dragons, the Canterbury Bulldogs or the Cronulla Sharks would be the frontrunners at this stage mate. At the moment, the Storm lie 4 points clear on top of the ladder (that's 2 games unlike AFL), but the Dragons and the Sharks are both making a charge towards the finals. If the Storm can get their best players on the park without being hindered by injury or suspension, i'd say we'll be well on track to win. :thumbsu:

Could go anywhere hawksforever!

Storm are playing brilliantly so far this season and would be most people's favourite...personally..they have fallen in the finals recently and I tend to believe that it could happen again...but they do have a top class squad so anything could happen.

Brisbane...not a bad chance as they still have big game players but have a habit of slowing down after origin due to the amount of representatives they have.

Dragons and the Bulldogs have the class and skill to win the comp, and would be my tips to make it to the Grand Final

Don't rule out the Knights if Johns stays fit and finds form because they could be anything....

Sharks...good form....would need to keep it up to prove there a contender.

Cowboys...have the ability to do anything come finals and last years GF loss would help them come finals...have to make sure they will get there first...plus back 3 (Bowen, Williams and Sing) need to find form urgently

Write off....Wests now there without benji, Canberra, Penrith, Warriors (not from the finals), roosters, eels and souths (as usual!)

Just wondering BigBoy, but why does everyone say that? I mean, what is the relevance of that to how we'll perform this year? I'm not having a go at you, i've just heard people say that alot and i've just wondered why, after 20 odd H&A rounds, a teams form would be any different in the finals?

In my opinion, it wont.

Im no sports psycholigist so i don't really understand how these players midsets change or even if they do. However last season if im not mistaken they had some great form heading into the finals with a win over a wests side that had won 8 in a row, then came semi-final, seemed to crumble early on against the cowboys (they did well to come back in that game I should add!)

However, if they were to achive a home final which i reckon is a certainty, with there home record it may just be what they need to get them there.

Great coverage thanks to thebigboy and phlihawk for your insight i find that most helpful and informative, cheers guys. Finally who is the tip for tonight's big game? I personally am a fan of the maroon's so i am hoping they steamroll the cockroaches!!!

Maroons hopefully.....30-16!!

Don't go placing bets at this time of the year - wait until 3-4 weeks following Origin. Pre-Origin form means nothing.

However, if you want somewhere to put your money, go with the Bulldogs. Their current side is, IMO, better than their 2004 premiership side and the Bulldogs tend to do very well when there's a chance the side will be split up at the end of the season.

For the other team in the GF, I'll say it is a 3 horse race between the Knights, Storm and Broncos...in that order. If the Knights can finish top 6, they are the most dangerous side in the comp (with Joey).

Yes that is sound advice POBT, i am just getting a feel for the market so i am weighing things up at the moment. There are some very healthy odds at the moment for afl/nrl premiership doubles.... cheers for the advice!:thumbsu:

Melbourne are my pick at this point.

They are unbelievable and still have Garrett Crossman, Michael Crocker and Greg Inglis to come back.

Melbourne -v- Newcastle GF???

My pick is Canterbury and St.George.

Reasons for not putting the storm in there, i think that Canterbury and St.George on there day (and remebering that the storm would have to play them in sydney!) can beat the storm.

Not rulling out the Storm cause there in top form atm, but come Grand Final Qualifiers, I think that either of these two sides at there best can beat melbourne.

And I def don't think the Knights can get there unless Johns can reproduce his best form.

The Knights are my pick to take home the comp. They still have fullback flyer Milton Thaiday to come back as well as the champion Joey Johns and Danny Buderus will be very hard to beat come finals time. In the past few years the Storm and Broncos have choked and i reckon it will happen again. My punt is a Knights v Bulldogs grand final and their forward pack is extremely formidable and will be tough to beat in September

They would have to do alot more than what they are doing right now against Paramatta

Parramatta, coming good at right end of season.
Even as a fan, I can't see that happening. Making the 8 will be a great achievement considering the **** we went through for a while there.

Probably, although it isnt the greatest experience sitting with those brainless Storm idiots :)
wouldnt you be used to it being a collingwood supporter:p
BTW Storm or Bulldogs to win and the Eels are no chance at all
