the annual ‘fans making trade demands like they have any say in anything’ season starts earlier and earlier each year

I blame Koch and Hinkley. Finals out of the equation so early means it starts earlier than ever.

Imagine being a North fan and going through this every year.

Carlton would want points for their FS in Harry Dean who is shaping to be a top 10 pick.

The compo pick will be pick 7 as of right now which will be pushed back after GC, Lions and Swans make their bids on their respective academy players.

That means Carlton will need to offload their compo pick for Harry Dean.

You’re very naive if you think Giants will set a low price for Aleer. They will no doubt ask for a first rounder and the Saints will say no and haggle it out. Giants aren’t going to accept a mid 2nd to early 3rd rounder for Aleer and it’s all rainbows and roses.

Saints are desperate for KPD depth and the draft crop this year doesn’t have many stand out tall defenders and KPP don’t grow on trees. Not to mention they have offered Aleer a four year deal on decent coin.

That alone would tell Giants that Saints value Aleer highly enough to offer him that deal and are going to ask to give something decent back. That is simply how trades work. You can’t expect the Giants to hand Aleer to the Saints on a silver platter and get something little in return now do you?

That could be achieved with Lions, GC, Swans, Giants and even Carlton.

Again, do you seriously believe the Giants will happily trade Aleer cheaply?

If Nas nominates Port and Port offers 2 x 1st rounders along with some pick swaps as the centrepiece of the deal and Saints rejects it, Saints walks away empty handed AND lose their best player for nothing. I can’t imagine it would bore well for everyone at the club including supporters because you lost your best player and got nothing in return.

Nas goes to the PSD and no doubt he would be concerned, however history has shown that whenever this happens, the player will generally get to their club of choice in the end.

I can only recall one instance where a player nominated their club of choice only for him to get picked up by another club and that player was Nick Stevens who requested a trade to Collingwood in 2003 and Port refused to trade him to Collingwood and he got picked up by the Blues.

Another case was Luke Ball entering the national draft after your mob and Collingwood failed to facilitate a deal during the trade period. However, he got to Collingwood in the end in the second round of the draft and you guys walked away with nothing.

Now there is every risk the other clubs that finished below Port could take him, however, history would suggest more often than not, the player will get to their preferred club in the end as other clubs would not want to deal with the baggage that comes with it in this day and age.

This is a bit of a fallacy. Because one club is performing better than the other club, suddenly it only makes sense the player should nominate the better performing club.

That argument falls flat because Jordan Dawson requested a trade back to SA and guess which team he selected despite them finishing much lower than Port? Let me give you a hint, starts with an “A” and there’s only two AFL clubs in SA.

You can add Izak Rankine to the equation as well, he requested a trade back home and to the same club as Jordan Dawson.

Now look how long it took for the other mob to “rebuild”?

I rest my case.
Given how bad the Crows have been they have done well recruiting some top end talent without paying too much. They now have Balme who has connections with many clubs. PA is a different story. We are very insular & that breeds low performance in all areas.

Besides St Kilda is looking to be contending by 2027...so a extra draftee from that year is useless for that goal.
I was laughing at your epic wall of text already, but then when I came across this bit I just had to stop reading lol. Your club is going nowhere (like always) and will most certainly not be contending in 2027.

To say port are about to go into a massive rebuild, also shows you have zero clue. We got slaughtered by injuries this year to so many key players, as well as had a coach who had given up before the season even started. High chance we bounce back big time next year.

I'm stating this again because I feel that if the situation was reversed we would be feeling exactly like Saints supporters are. This is a club that hasn't had many gifts unlike so many other Vic clubs. They finally get a top player thru the draft & now there's speculation he may leave. Seriously, how do Port supporters expect them to feel.

Agree I’ve said it before this quite literally could be us with Butters this time next year

OUT COME THE FANTASY STATS LOL

SainterinSydney we know he is a good player, who are you trying to convince? Do you think convincing the Port Big Footy board is a gun will increase his trade value?

Not trying to convince anyone. Just saying that the laughing off of the Nas and Butters trade if both choose to leave is unfounded. I note Butters has the longer track record, but it's definitely not a laughable suggestion.

Either way I don't think either will leave, but let's wait and see.

Butters is obviously a sensitive spot for your mob. How do you think we feel at the prospect of Nas leaving? The guy is not just a gun on the field, but will be worth his weight in gold for marketing.

Who knows, Nas may leave and with the players and/or picks we get for him could be the tipping point for creating a complete premiership team, or it will set us back years. Maybe Nas going to Port will tip you guys over into a premiership side, or the picks and/or players you lose will set you back.

Judd going to Carlton didn't get them a flag. Kennedy going to West Coast certainly got them a flag.

Footy gods are unknowable.

All the more reason to bend them over as hard as we can this year (sorry Saints fans).

No one will have mercy on us next year if Butters decides to go.

It's because they are a protected victorian club and all the shit that comes from that.

We are lumping them in with the corruption that follows that states football teams. Possibly unfairly.

Irrelevant to StKilda as TDK is a Free Agent and so we will not need to give them picks or players.

Including them in a three club deal makes absolutely no sense.

Again no relevance to St Kilda in a deal for Nas.

Suggest you review the past St Kilda GWS trades of Steele and Bruce who were both playing more first football that Aleer has been.

No Club will trade a first round pick for a fringe player which Aleer is. If GWS ask for too much then he stays at GWS. However GWS have a very good history of being fair traders.

Simply put, yes he is not going fora 1st Round. And if he was in your imagined threeway PA would have to stump up that pick.

You do not have these, and do not include 2027 as Tassie coming in will greatly diminish pick value in those years.

Besides St Kilda is looking to be contending by 2027...so a extra draftee from that year is useless for that goal.

Ball had also been carrying injuries for some time and point blank refused to do a medical with an club bar Collingwood. At the time he left he was not the player he was earlier in his career. Pies got his body better.

You are not going to get Nas for a Bag of Chips.

Nas in the form he is in is a lot juicer acquisition that a injury hampered Ball was at the time. North and Tigers would both grab him.

His boyhood Club who gave a late first rounder for him.

Glad you raised Jordan Dawson. He was a good first 22 player at the Swans at the time of drafting and was traded for a first round selection in the NAB AFL Draft (tied to the Melbourne Football Club) and so was traded for a late first round pick. Dawson at the time of trading is much better player than Aleer has been this year.

Aleer is a fringe player, and so will go for less.

Yes he chose the Club on the rise and who have rebuilt very well over a period of time. Congrats Jordan for choosing well.

You better re-open that case as your logic is based on poor assumptions.

Besides if PA try and lowball, Crows will most likely be a lot more willing. However, they like PA will only land Nas if they sacrifice a gun to St Kilda, or to another Club to get better draft picks.
Nas will go to the club he nominates.

The idea of the Crows is just token to avoid discussing why he won’t go there.

There is no Crows.

Maybe don’t draft an SA boy who has heavy links to one of the SA clubs then.

I hate this line of thinking tbh.

In the business of drafting it is about weighing risk.

Drafting an 18 year old indigenous man with strong family links in his home state and links to another AFL club in his home state is a flashing red risk of leaving at any time in his career.

If you take the risk and draft him, you back yourself to create an environment where the pull to stay outweighs those other factors and that is an extremely high bar to achieve.

lol. Sam Mitchell sent 4 different blokes to him and said he’s Un-taggable in his post-game interview. Whoops

I get what you mean but being tagged once and having it failed does not mean he's untaggable.

Was he tagged against Melbourne or Geelong? I can't recall

I think Nas will find himself getting a lot more attention now

I remember butters & rozee had a similar period when they exploded in 2022 and they were rarely tagged, and basically left to run amok each game

Now butters is almost tagged every game

Was kind of tongue in cheek, but there is a little bit of seriousness behind it. If you are a struggling Melbourne based club, going nowhere, with a tiny fan base, you need to draft smarter than the big Vic clubs. There is nothing exciting about staying at a club like St Kilda for an interstate gun. Was always a risk for them, just like it was for North to draft JHF.
