Keeler is easily worth more than Whitlock. So you're offering one future first for NWM here with us getting decent change on top. This is the sort of offer that makes them switch their phone off and send him to the draft.
no way is keeler worth more than whitlock, he eas pick 44 in 2022 draft.

its his 3rd system, and he hasnt cracked the 22 yet consistently.

Whitlock in his draft year was a projected top 20 pick, he slid to 33.

Will be interesting with the AFLs very gray policies, and the need to recruit a first rounder with 2 out of every 4 years.

We could easily go into deficit at the end of next years draft after recruiting Cochrane, knowing we have Zemes lined up. But with this rationale we may as well trade out or 2027 first too.

So I wouldn’t be surprised if we traded them both out and looked to bank as many 2027 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders (which would be worth less to other clubs, but the same to us).

This is taking a risk that Zemes would be a Top 10 pick, and we aren’t down the bottom of the ladder

It’s not like our current key forwards are 30+ and losing Whitlock is a disaster.
Mitch is 23, Luko is 24 and Marshall is 26. Whitlock would not have been getting a game anytime soon unless there were injuries. Then on top of that, we have Dougie coming next year and Pilot the year after.
You then have Lord and Finlayson as SANFL depth. Yea they aren’t great, but it’s just for depth purposes.
We can add NWM and not weaken our best 23 in the slightest, that is a massive massive win and great list management.

As I’ve said before, NWM will come in and instantly be our 2nd best player behind Butters. For anyone saying different, you clearly have not actually watched him play enough.

He is the best attacking HBF in the comp, ahead of the likes of Whitfield, Ash, Josh Daicos, Zorko, Rozee etc. and on top of that, he is only 22. He has also had stints running through the midfield where he has also dominated.
The Whitlock move looks questionable now but stupid in 2 years.

I thought Luko when C4 said Jack and was ok with that.

Go ask literally any non-Port supporter what they think.

These guys are AFL footballers now. Draft position is irrelevant. Pre-draft ranking is even more irrelevant (and for what it's worth, which is very little, Keeler was considered a slider at 44 too).

While still being young himself, Keeler has played good football at AFL level, Whitlock hasn't. That alone makes him clearly worth more. Whitlock might never play an AFL game.

Rodan and Salopak could be high end 1st rounders.

How on earth are people rating a bloke picked at pick 33 as a first rounder?
Why not?

Saints might prefer him to a 2025 first rounder, or a future future first - where everyone might be sacked before they get a chance to use it.

If its just the steak knives of the deal we'd find another player to give them.

It feels like the Port fanbase is an even split between those that expect Todd to come back and play a key role for the next 5 years, and those who have put a line through him.

I sit pretty firmly in the latter. Leaves us with MG and Luko as proven key forwards before we go to Esava/Lord. Thats not great.

Esava and key forward in the same sentence, wash your mouth out bro.

Esava is our best key defender.

yeah i agree with what your saying though

But he wasnt a top 20 pick. He was pick 33.
There is a slim chance because hes only 12 months in the system and if St Kilda were hot on him that they may consider him higher, but its slim.

Im not talking about his trade value, im talking about people saying “hes technically a first rounder”. Hes not. We need to hope St Kilda view him as such

Because for starters if you have followed the 2024 draft class you would recognize that it has been regarded by all as a super draft. It's why you saw so many teams trying to get multiple picks in the first round last year. Even a team like North last off-season offered their future first in 2025 (widely expected to be top 5 in 2025) to the Gold Coast for pick 13, before settling on trading it for pick 27 and a future 2nd round pick.

And when Port went into draft night round 1 there was a more than reasonable chance they would have taken Whitlock had Berry been off the board. They rate him highly.

Combine that with the fact this year's draft class absolutely sucks, whereby players will be selected in the top 10 who wouldn't have gone in the top 25-30 last year.

If St Kilda want early picks in this draft they will not prove difficult to come by and this trade will be much easier to execute.

lol imagine if a deal fell over because we weren’t willing to hand over a pick 33 key forward who is yet to debut.

That would be the most diabolical list management decision in history.
I wouldn't trade him. But if he's already shown signs of wanting to get back to Malbun, then he's a flight risk down the track.

KPP one year into his career, he slid in his draft. The Saints are asking for him while contracted to us and highly rated by the club. His brother was pick 27, and North traded a first this year to get him. Why isn’t he rated as first-round value?

Hence why I am extremely reluctant to trade out any players from last year's draft. It was touted as one of the strongest drafts with the quality coming through in all different shapes and sizes.

Assuming Port offloads Berry and Whitlock as some people have suggested here, how are Port gonna fill up their list spots? More B/C grade players who can't get games from other clubs and become even more awful with the amount of of list cloggers already on the list?

Drafting? This year's draft crop is very poor and that means having to wait until 2026 and by then Butters could be on his way out and further delay Port's raise up the ladder.

We’ll fill at least one of the spots with Nasaiah Wanganeen-Milera. Solid start.
