Not sure this is the case. With the advent of trading 2 years in advance it’s just another asset that can be used however you want to use it.
Sure you can, but it doesn’t mean it’s of much value to whoever you’re offering it to.

And there is no way it blows out further than early 20’s, and that’s if we go deep in to finals. It could be a top 10 pick based on the same logic.
With the greatest of respect, this is I believe an extremely ignorant take.

Tasmania have been granted 6 of the first 13 picks in that draft. So if you say finish 8th bottom that year (10th), your first has already blown out from 8 to 14.

Then say it’s like this year, when you have free agency compo picks going to Carlton and West Coast for losing TDK and Allen, and that pick then blows out another 2, to 16.

And that’s before any potential gun father-sons and the swathe of potential academy picks from the northern clubs in particular could push that pick back another 6-8.

So 16 could EASILY now be 24.

And that’s if you finished 10th!

If you finished 6th, it’s at least 28 now. Possibly more, depending on if anyone gets bid on between 24 and 28.

As if all that wasn’t bad enough, I just read that there’s also going to be a 17yo “mini draft” in 2026, like the one that Melbourne got Jesse Hogan in, etc, way back in the day.

So up to 4 of the best 17yo’s who would have been taken in the 2027 draft will be taken in this mini draft instead, taking even more of the best talent out of the 2027 pool.

Making pick 28 now effectively pick 32. For finishing 6th.

A 2027 first will hold little value to clubs this year. It would be a huge gamble for them, especially if they think you could be a good team that year.

Which is why he will sign that 2 year extension and you’ll be told you have 2 years to get your assets in order.

That will be the time a deal can be genuinely done. There isn’t a genuine scenario we eat shit on this deal.

Reading prior examples, it isn’t Bailey smith who was coming off a reco and had some image issues.

It’s not like Ball or Nick Stevens.

North the eagles Richmond won’t pass on him and if they do, why would we?

You guys won’t be putting up a Rozee or Butters etc.

You don’t have a first rounder pick. You re-signed your best asset in a potential deal.

Sorry mate it doesn’t work that way

“Get your assets in order” lol

Fair enough.

I genuinely can’t see how this gets done. If Melbourne can turn around wanting 3 first rounders for Pickett - I think that’s what we will ask for and we will want picks in this draft.

You are going to be dealing with SOS who will be an exhausting C U next Tuesday
The difference is Pickett was contracted, not to mention didn't actually get traded for 3 firsts and chose to stay in Melb. Maybe the same happens here and Nas is working for more Money. Given what reportedly being offered to TDK why wouldn't he?

The simple reality is, if Nas requests a trade is a deal will get done because he's out of contract and you don't really have any mechanism to stop him being traded if he desperately wants to come back home.

SOS has ever right to be hard to deal with and will do everything he can to extract top value for a quality player, but given Nas is out of contract it's highly unlikely that you get his full value. Unless of course Nas is equally happy coming to either SA club and you can play them of against each other, but even then you can only extract what the SA clubs are able to offer.

I remember not that long ago a large number of people on bigfooty saying the only way a contracted JHF would get traded was if port offered up Butters or similar, but ultimately a deal got done.

Its basically impossible to get NWM this year and Cochrane next without losing Butters this year or next.

When you put it like that its not that realistic or worth getting too excited about.

Realistically NWM is staying at the Saints for 2 years and then we might try again
It's not impossible. The only way we get Cochrane next year is if we get NGA access to him, that doesn't change if we get NWM and doesn't mean needing to loose Butters.

We dont get Cochrane for free. We need to plan for a bid at pick 1.

If we have pick 8, 26 and 44 = 2171 points. and thats without trading pick 8 + more for NWM.

Perpetually going into bigger draft deficits the following draft until we don't have an Academy or FS and lose out first pick or 2 to pay back the debt... That is if we are allowed to.
Well hopefully Carr has a longer term view than just next years finals sugar hit.

You’ve gotta pay back your debt sometime…

Pay it back in 2029 after we've got Cochrane (If we get access to him), Pilot and Salopek...That if we are allowed to go deeper and deeper into deficit for that long.

If we can get him, Nas is more than a suger hit next year. Thats a big step to giving Carr a premiership list.

Would love him to nominate Port as a club of choice but if he wants success the Crows are a better option unfortunately.

Yeah, their one season of being good in almost a decade means they are amazing.
The **** are you smoking?

The crows also still have a tough road ahead this year, they’re precariously placed in a logjam between 2nd and 9th and their next 6 games is against 4 top 7 teams and a showdown and only west coast the guaranteed win. They could still **** this season up, they’re unlikely to finish 9th but there is going to be an unlucky team to miss out in 9th.
