This is a really odd stat that I stumbled across.

ROUND 2: St.Kilda def Adelaide
ROUND 3: Adelaide def Fremantle

ROUND 3: St.Kilda def West Coast
ROUND 4: West Coast def Bulldogs

ROUND 4: St.Kilda def Fremantle
ROUND 5: Fremantle def Sydney

ROUND 5: St.Kilda def Port Adelaide
ROUND 6: Port Adelaide def Adelaide

ROUND 6: St.Kilda def Western Bulldogs

I thought it was interesting. Maybe our intensity rubs off on other teams.

If that was the case;

1) Coincidences are coming back with a vengeance.
2) Our luck is like if we annexed Ireland and they were all fine and dandy with it.

And I doubt either of those are true.

We're playing teams into form.

Being serious though, some teams seem to rebound better after a spanking than they do an 'honourable' loss. Most teams seem to have been blown away by our intensity so it probably gets them focusing on their effort. Next week they come against an inferior opposition and all of a sudden the pressure of the previous week isn't there and they can play their own game.

We don't like to sing our praises too much in case things come to a screaming halt but the past 5 weeks have been as good a team effort as we've seen in years. We have completely dominated the teams we have played for significant portions of the game.

Also what the Saints are doing as far as intensity is what a lot of teams can do- especially over the short term. " See how hard the Saints came at you, that's what you should be doing. "

lol, true, 2 birds, 1 stone..

got on port last week and cleaned up

went further into the stat this week and got on dogs under 39.5 (each team has gone on to win under 39.5 so far)

I was absolutely sure that the Dogs would get towelled up but, against my better judgment, I chose them simply because of "the stat". Freaky.

not really that odd...

as Jeff said above.. the pressure and intensity directed at teams by the saints gives them a taste of playing against that pressure and they build on that and come out the next week expecting to play that pressure game again but if they are playing an inferior form team to the saints, they'll have the advantage to help beat them..

i think its a pretty obvious trend for teams throughout afl history.. except really bad teams and we know how "even" the afl has endeavoured to become these days...

Well either way, even though Carlton lost to Fremantle and will probably want to put in a better effort this week, I think there could be good betting odds to put Collingwood over the Blues according to this 'odd stat'
