Yay, Nick Smith is coming! I hope he comes to the aftermatch function. I wanna see him!!

Training is on Thursday 12:30 at Subi Oval. I emailed the club about it yesterday.

I believe the bovine will report on training

He has a fantastic take on handball angles etc, plus, given his local knowledge, he can comment on stud length

Saneey over to you

Bird out for Barlow.

*From AFL homepage.

Never thought he'd be an out, but to see Barlow coming in is great. Hope he capitalises on the chance he has gotten, considering Bird was pretty much solid for the games he had played so far. After I've seen what he can do at 18; I'd love to see what he could do at 20.

Birdy is a footballer not some giraffe from another code or sport. A long term Swan prospect .... future leader??...captained NSW Rams two years running in the Under 18's

Yes, but I would still like for him to earn his merits before anyone heralds him as a future captain. Its probably the worst thing anyone could have upon their heads starting out in senior footy at 18 years old.

Some giraffe from another sport, lol? Did I say something wrong in that he should be allowed to play football before he has the expectations of being crowned a potential captain placed upon him?

Point taken... wasn't having a go at you......wasn't loading Craig up. A future leader doesn't necessary mean captain. I have seen Craig play at a junior level and have watched his development - played with and was coached by his dad. People has said that Craig is too small too slow - yet a junior level and at Under 16 and under 18 National Chmpionships he excelled. He has worked (continues to) really hard to improve his game and do the right things.

In regards to the Giraffe thing constantly se at a junior level playersfrom other codes getting a leg up because their 6'6" etc. They may not be able to kick a ball but they can run! A sign of the times I guess but kids like Craig making the big time is becoming harder and harder.

Yes like any other player he has to earn his stripes.......

mate, you know the family, maybe you could answer a question: is craig related in any close way to cronulla rugby league (and NSW, australia) player greg bird? they seem of very similar build, i was curious

Don't believe so. Craig's father Steve played for Port Adelaide (reserves?) in the SANFL some time ago and is currently coaching Campbelltown in the Sydney Football Competition. Tough, hard and smart footballer....

Yeah, something along the lines of what I ws thinking. I don't necessarily agree on the converts. I think we can get a lot more out of them than sole speed or height. Many of the basketball and/or volleyball converts, for example, have excellent hand-eye co-ordination and foot skills. Its just a matter of how they're developed.

Interesting to see where Jake Orreal, a basketball 'convert', ends up.
