Dunno, but there's a lot of organisation stuff that goes on behind the scenes for it. I know, cause I do that organising.

I shouldn't complain tho, my month of June coming up is looking quite good for me. Includes: A PD, 3 days of exams, Queens Birthday, Report Writing day, another day off for a medical appointment, and another PD Day.

I don't have one "full week" of work in June at all.

What is the point of NAPLAN?
NAPLAN is a national testing program aimed at ranking the schools of Australia against each other, making sure kids are above a particular benchmark for the 4 tested areas in reading, writing, comprehension and numeracy.
The problem is now the government started talking about paying teachers according to the results of NAPLAN and all the schools are scared of having a poor ranking, so the teachers feverishly teach to the NAPLAN testing curriculum until the tests are done and dusted, then revert back to things they should be teaching.

I don't mind the concept- it's the way it's implemented and the way the results are used that I don't like.

Results are publicly available for all schools- or they used to be- which means everyone can see how poorly your school did. :( If your school's in a low socio-economic area, or an area with a high migrant population, your overall results will be poor (though, to be fair, I think the schools are ranked against schools in similar conditions but the info on these markers is sometimes outdated).

Done in Grade 5, Year 7 and 9.
Do they not do Year 3 anymore?

And do you also have a science testing program (I think it also had a maths component)? I can't remember what ours is called- similar to NAPLAN but done in secondary school- maybe just the one time, perhaps 2. I'll see if I can dig up what my kids did. used to be called WAMSE or something, which was WA only.

Just curious- was that parent Asian by any chance? Can't see an Aussie being too fussed about NAPLAN results.

She was Indian- close enough ;) It was her eldest daughter as well - I guess by the time you go through 5 kids, you lose all your expectations, particularly if your eldest child is a boy and just cbf'ed. :p
The Uni near our school has a high proportion of Asian students and there are a lot of parents in nearby schools who flog their kids- sending them to Kumon (do you have that in Vic?) to bring their grades up from an A to and A+ :(

A bit like this dad ;)

So your brain is full up? You didn't answer my question :p
My brain doesn't get full until much later at night, once it stops freewheeling and all the cogs finally engage :D
Yes but but I have a magic bed. As soon as I get in it and shut my eyes it starts churning around all the stuff I learnt the past few weeks :(
And did you hear that a new medical thingy has been found ? That instead of human blood they have found chicken blood is better for transfusing to humans?
