Anyhow boys & girls. Here's a couple of Cameron White batting stats you may want to chew on or ignore before you go back to having your trollfests.

During the 2006 calendar year, White played a total of 32 games of cricket (1st class, ODI and A List) and - made approx 3,000 runs at an average of over 50 in all 3 forms of the game during this period of time.

32 games is pretty much 2 full seasons of cricket to make a fair recent assessment of someone's ability and form to warrant selection as a batsman.

Any wickets he takes at this stage of career in internationals should purely be viewed as a bonus.

But regardless, I didn't think Dizzy should be picked for the first Ashes Test anyway.

At least one commentator is of the opinion that White bowls mainly toppies.

I hope that comment was taken in good grace by White fans.

I admit, White doesn't get much side spin when bowling his leg breaks, I think mainly because his arm is too vertical, that's common knowledge. If he lowered his arm a bit he would probably get more side spin, but he's in the side mainly for his batting so I don't really give a ******** if you bag his bowling. Any wickets he gets is a bonus.

FWIW i'm loving White at #7, really hope it comes off. But i rate Watson highly in the one-day arena too, if he can recover ok he'll give us some good depth come the World Cup.

I can't see a spot for Watson in the top 7 of the ODI side apart from opening.

He might take Haydens spot.

His bowling has been very good of late with the white ball. Although it took him alot of work to get up to the pace/swing.

Injuries are a real shame.

That's funny I just had a look at the scorecard. You know who took the majority of the wickets? Shane Warne with 8! That's right, a Vic. Jason Gillespie only got a pathetic 3. So great form there, sonny.

As irrelevant as second division county stats are, I don't think anyone's debating his batting ability and his performances since coming back over here have been good enough to illustrate his improvement- he has a strong case for selection because the role open in the ODI team is perfect for him. However, he can't bowl- judging by this board half the state of Victoria are devoting their time to deluding themselves otherwise, but anyone watching him play can tell this. So what we have is a circlejerk over a talented young batsman who has been picked mainly on potential (probably the same people crying foul when Clarke was picked on the same basis) and anyone who dares criticise any aspect of his game is set upon by said pack of supporters and labelled a troll, regardless of their basis for comment. Sound fair?

He played 2 Tests.

And in that 2nd Test, he picked up those 3 wickets from only 5 overs. Amazing strike-rate.

I'm beginning to wonder whether you actually know anything about cricket at all, considering you don't have a clue about that series.

Actually, I am not bagging his bowling at all. I reckon he is a fantastic young cricketer, his batting is clearly his strength at the moment though.

It's just that I posted in another thread a while back that I thought White bowled top-spinners (which I stick by - it is why he can get quite a bit of kick for instance). The comment seemed to be taken as a negative one at the time.

I just thought it was ironic then when I heard a former Australian captain the other night describe White as bowling toppies as well.

Will develop into a wicket-taking weapon for Australia.

To even compare White to Kumble is laughable.

This is the kind of disgusting, obsessive hyping of White that made me turn from liking him as a cricketer to trying to bring down some of the hype on here with criticism.
