He's played 82 games. It's not like he hasn't played at all.

He has freakish ability. Think his per-36 rebound numbers are around 13 a game.

If he gets healthy, he will be a beast.

With that link it mentions the Kenyon Martin knees. The only sports person to come back from 2 micro-fractures guys got a lot of heart. Great personal achievement for him.
And he's currently sitting with a knee injury. K-Mart, like Oden, is a talented guy, but sometimes you just can't help these kind of injuries, no matter how hard you work.

He is not a bust. Anyone who's watched him play knows he's a huge talent. He is, however, apparently the most injury-prone player alive. That is neither his fault, nor that of the team. Medical staff might be blamed, perhaps, but it's impossible to tell from here.

He's a RFA this year, and I have no doubt Portland will not even extend a qualifying offer as he's become a symbol of their ill fortune. Which means a team who has confidence in their medical staff will have a chance to take a low-risk/high-return gamble on him. Probably for something like 8M/2yrs you have the chance to try to salvage a top 5 talent at the C position. I.e. the Oden story is not over yet.

But at this very point in time you would have to say he has been some sort of a bust. Yes he has the talent but he hasnt produced anything on the court. Yes he has had injuries and such but from a #1 pick you dont want 20 games every 3 years.

Sure in 2-3 years down the track he can change that but if you had to label him right now it would be a bust.

Unlike Oden, Kenyon has actually played the last few years. The guys injury prone no doubt but he has shown a lot being able to comeback and play at the level he does.

Looks like it was a big day in the NBA.
Parker.
Oden.
Bosh looking like an NBA player
The Bonner/Scalabrine matchup.

Oden is a bust in the sense that Portland didn't get (or should I say, hasn't yet got) value for the #1 pick.
Dude's knees just can't handle it.

Oden is not a bust in the Kwame Brown sense, i.e. he actually has the skillset to be an impact player in the league.

Anyways, bust is an overused sports term that has lost all meaning.

Cool Bosh video BTW.

Yes he has, albeit in not too many games. In 2009, he had 17/13/3.5blks per-36, for example. Now, that might only be 22 games, but there are literally only 3 other guys in the league who could ever match that output over any given stretch of 22 games (DHo, AB and Bogut).

Sure in 2-3 years down the track he can change that but if you had to label him right now it would be a bust.

...then I'd label him unfortunate. Busts have a specific meaning - they refer to high picks who either obviously lack talent (Olowakandi, Joe Alexander and so on) or lack application (Eddy Curry, Kwame Brown etc) or both. Oden fits neither category.

What are his per-36 foul numbers like?

But I agree that its a bit harsh calling him a bust. Injuries dont make you a bust, lack of talent does.

I answered this above, but just as an aside: since 1990-1991, there have only been 4 instances of players averaging 16/12/3 per-36:

Code:

Not bad company.

And there it is, proof that mdc is actually a stat bot.

EDIT: This post made more sense when the above was just a shambles of random numbers.

When i said he hasnt done anything on the court i should of said for a long period of time i apologize however i did mention the guy is talented as hell and could/should/would if he was healthy.

But when you get the #1 overall pick from a Portland stand point you want a little more than a guy who is very very talented and very unlucky to not be on the court with injuries. If and more than likely Oden leaves as a FA this summer they really havent got their worth out of that #1 pick?

Yes, but for lesser mortals this is handy:

You're right, it's a wasted pick. But it doesn't mean Oden should be labelled a bust as a result.

I would love Oden on the Sixers roster. Even if he takes 24 months off to make sure those knees are right.

Shit hot, never knew that existed. Bookmarked for future Rondo records.

If you go to their main site then -> Play Finder Index you'll also see Player Game Finder, which is probably the handiest one of all.

For example, you could isolate to the extent that you could ask "Since 07-08, how many opposing forwards have scored 25 or more against Boston @ Boston?". Very useful for betting, too.

Holy shit that is awesome.

For the record, it has happened 27 times in the reg season, but only 7 of those have been wins.

In playoffs it has happened 5 times, 4 of them were LeBron - mad props if you get the other.

Drew Gooden?

Gut reaction was Charlie V but I can't for the life of me remember whether Bos-Mil played in the playoffs, given I had black-listed Milwaukee before last year.

Since (and including) 07-08 season, ie. the big 3 era.

Way less bad than him. Plus I don't think we've ever seen him in the playoffs.

'Shard is the obvious answer but I can't see that being deserving of mad props. Deng tends to crap his pants against Boston, so not him. Josh Smith is too much of a bone head to score 25 against the Celts on the road.

Totally forgot who else you played apart from Cle, Orl, Chi and Atl, so it seems I fail.

The OTHER Magic forward.

Those are the only teams we have played in that stretch, plus Detroit. Oh and Miami back when they were good. rayallensmirk.gif
