B: Clint Bartram, Jared Rivers, Joel Macdonald
HB: Jack Grimes, Colin Garland, Jamie Bennell
C: Nathan Jones, Brent Moloney, Luke Tapscott
HF: Rohan Bail, Colin Sylvia, Liam Jurrah
F: Jack Watts, Brad Green, Addam Maric
FOLL: Mark Jamar, Lynden Dunn, Aaron Davey
I/C (from): Neville Jetta, Stef Martin, Ricky Petterd, Jake Spencer, James Strauss, Jack Trengove, Matthew Warnock
New: Luke Tapscott (North Adelaide, SA)

I'd go with:
Int: Martin, Jetta, Trengove and Sub: Petterd

Does anyone know if the sub has to come out of the players listed on the interchange?

Sydney Swans
B: Paul Bevan, Ted Richards, Martin Mattner
HB: Rhyce Shaw, Heath Grundy, Andrejs Everitt
C: Daniel Hannebery, Kieren Jack, Nicholas Smith
HF: Lewis Jetta, Adam Goodes, Ben McGlynn
F: Ryan O'Keefe, Sam Reid, Jesse White
Foll: Shane Mumford, Josh P. Kennedy, Jarrad McVeigh
I/C: Jude Bolton, Jarred Moore, Brett Meredith, Mark Seaby, Gary Rohan, Byron Sumner, Trent Dennis-Lane
New: Byron Sumner (Woodville-West Torrens (SA)), Andrejs Everitt (Western Bulldogs)

I'd leave out Spencer and let Dunn pinch hit in the ruck. He would be more than a match for Seaby who would be Mumford's support. SME to be the sub for his versatility. He can play at either end (Not very well according to some on here!) and he can ruck if it all goes to shite.

No match up for Warnock, so he misses out. James Strauss the other unlucky one.

The sub has to be named 90 minutes before the game. As far as I am aware, it can any player from your final 22.

I suppose it could possibly be any of the players as teams can change around the interchange from what is listed there. We won't know who the sub is until 90 mins before the game when the Final Teams come in.

IMO, this is what the IC will look like. Mayby swap Warnock for Martin.

I/C: Neville Jetta, Ricky Petterd, Jack Trengove, Matthew Warnock

I'd leave out Spencer and let Dunn pinch hit in the ruck. He would be more than a match for Seaby who would be Mumford's support.
Really? Dunn at 190cm/90kg against Seaby at 200/100. He wouldn't win a hitout and Seaby would out mark him all round the ground.

I'm definitely leaving out Spencer, but I think it should be Martin as back up ruck, who actually has the size to play the position and therefore is a better option. If he can compete in there it means Jamar can go forward. He also provides an extra defensive option to take one of Reid/White if they get loose which means Warnock isn't required.

I hear you. But if Dunny can give us a contest in the ruck I think he can be damaging at ground level. How much damage will Seaby do anyway?? In saying this, I think Bailey will go the safe option and play Martin as the back-up ruckman. I just don't think SME offers us enough here. Back-up KPD yes, a tall forward option perhaps. But not in the ruck.

Surprises me that Petterd is not HF with Bail swapping to the bench in his place.

Really need Trenners to play, the midfield looks a bit sparse.

Need Bail's pace I'd assume. I agree on Trengove, has to play if fit.

I'd go with:
Bench: Petterd, Trengove, Jetta(s), Martin

Petterd has to start, not enough marking power in that forward line otherwise.

Kind of makes it hard to put your finger on things as to how the club is thinking.

I can see Tapscott being given the job of hoofing the ball out of the defensive 50 after we've spent five minutes in there blundering with it like idiots.

We could take a lesson or two from rugby, where the grafters get the ball out to the fly-half who hoofs it downfield ...

All Tapscott needs is Morton's number 10.

I noticed Garland going for a few of these (has a surprisingly big kick) during the NAB Cup. Through, around or over are the only options to the forward zone/press - our biggest problem is having someone make a big bodied marking contest when we go over..

If Richmond proved anything tonight, it's that the long hoof out of defence doesn't work against a team that can play a half-decent zone.

Their turnaround came when the likes of Nahas started taking men on. Hence, I think the likes of Bail and Davey will be key.

This.
Nothing infuriates me more (possible over-exaggeration) than being at the footy and having everyone around you screaming 'kick the bloody thing!'
Who to?
The practice match against Brisbane was a great example that kicking long hopefully = turnovers.
The answer is to either work the ball around more/improve our marking upfield.

Tapscott to HBF, Bail to wing, Sylvia to HFF, Petterd to CHF, Bennell the sub.

Int: Jetta, Trengove, Martin.

Martin will beat Mumford and Seaby for athletic ability. Just needs a footballers brain to figure out where to run. He will come along nicely IMO. And throw your body around Stef, you've got the bulk, start hurting people!

I'd go with:
Bench: Petterd, Trengove, Jetta(s), Martin
I think it is the easiest bench to pick from for a long time.

Warnock, Strauss and Spencer are not up to AFL standard, we can't afford another injury.

I think Bennell will sub and barring injury he will replace Martin.

I can understand your reasoning with having martin in the 21 but what he may give us in the ruck is completely outweighed by what Petterd will give us up forward. No way Petterd will be left out of the side.

I agree it is ready to pick from if JT is fit. I'm assuming he's injured though.

What's wrong with our team? I don't see a problem :S

One player 190cm+ in the forward 50 worries me.

Earth to CC, our forward line has been relatively small and mobile for the last 3 years. Besides, there are 4 'marking' options listed there (JW, LJ, BG, even CS, plus Dunn, Petterd and even Martin. I don't see the problem.
