Official Shane Watson Thread

I look through all these threads and people go on about how rubbish Shane Watson is.

I honestly don't see how people come to this conclusion.

Someone provide me with a reason that he is apparently such a poor cricketer. A reason is not 'coz he is' or 'White/Hopes/my grandmother is better.'

I'll provide a reason why I think he is a fine cricketer.

He's a 25 year old who averages 49 in first class cricket with the bat and thirty with the ball. In one dayers he still manages to average around thirty in both disciplines, but in his last twenty one dayers he averages 29 with the bat and just 21.15 with the ball.

Hardly a hack, and hardly undeserving a place in the Australian cricket team.

Agreed, i'm a big fan of Watto, played fantastically well for The Hawks in 2005 as a replacement for Warner...

I don't mind Watson, but two things are painfully obvious:

1. He should not bat at #7.

2. He should not bowl at the death.

And yet is barely half the player Freddie is.

Just goes to show how indicative and accurate your stats are.

Pijama cricket is no measure of a player, test cricket is.

On topic though, Watson will be a gun batsman in Test and a capable bowler, in ODI he needs to bat in the top 4 and build an innings.

He's no Kallis though.

Look at SR aswell.

Watson needs to show he can perform in crunch situations. Yes, he is technically correct and he is a handy bowler and his stats are acceptable, but for me there is a question mark over his ticker. If he can deliver when the pressure is on I will have more confidence in him.

Don't mind him opening, he look alright in the CT.

But

No room for him in the middle order, not suited to 7. Not good enough to play as a bowler.

Flintoffs played alot more matches though.

Of course you would give it to Watson, just look at last night

Australia looking at a big score and Flintoff comes on at the death and takes 3/9
England starting to struggle in the dying overs, need a couple of good overs, Watson takes 1/22 off 3 overs

Of course I didnt bring up the batting, dont want to upset Mrs Watson too much
