From the Herald Sun site.

Great to see Goose back in, but he better be 100%. Won't be happy us playing him if he's not. Also disappointing M. Gardiner's still out injured.

ps For Geelong Byrnes is out (:thumbsd:) and Gamble is in.

Interesting. Happy to see Goose and Dempster in. I would have liked to see Armo, Jones or Charlie in but not too dissapointed. I'm worried about the ruck though - I would like to see someone else but Kosi be the number 2 ruckmen after King got very tired last week.

good too see goose and dempster in the team will be exciting... thought c gardiner wouldve been playing.. too bad m gardiner is still injured maybe next week....

i think i speak for most st kilda fans when i say this
BOUT TIME RAPH CLARKE GOT THE BOOT!!!

our back line looks stronger already though i wish theyd seperate gehrig and kosi though kose likes to run forward into backs generally causing a spoil on team mates...

wouldve been good too name a more faster and tougher midfield
but its good too see a strong team on paper :)
lets hope they get act together

Scorps switched on

THEY were playing under lights. But the first quarter of Saturday's Round 2 VFL match between Casey Scorpions and Frankston was so ridden with mistakes that you'd have thought the players were fumbling about in darkness.
Thankfully, Casey Fields' inaugural night game improved into an entertaining affair contested with a vigour expected of two clubs that have little regard for each other.
The Scorpions defeated their stand-alone opponent by 38 points, giving Greg Hutchison his first win as coach.
"A really good effort," Hutchison told the players after the match.
"You had a real crack at it. You tried to do what we asked. Well done. Really good. Good to get on the scoreboard, hey?"
Casey began slowly but escaped a decent deficit by virtue of Frankston's shocking inaccuracy (2.9) in the first term.
St Kilda defender Matt Maguire's nickname is Moose but fans were calling him a goose after he twice overstepped when kicking out.

Mission wouldn't declare Goose available if he wasn't ready to go.

My concern isn't that he's not 100% fit but whether he'll cope with the pace of the game.

He struggled last season after returning from the broken leg which is understandable but he's an old school defender and I'm worried that he's not suited to the way the rules are interpreted these days.

Anyway enough of the negativity. Great to see him back. :thumbsu:

How many games did Dempster play in the VFL following the knee injury? 2 or 3? I think it's a measure of how much Lyon rates him. Hopefully he can do well for us.

:D

We had a Geelong supporter last week calling him Moose as well.

Goose back in

Might be a while til he runs into some form though, but glad to see him back in. Hopefully, he's allowed a little grace period before nuts start calling for his head! (Not in reference to anyone here, btw)

Goose! Goose! Goose!

Fiora should've been dropped for Jones, and I'd love to see Charlie in the team if Kosi's going to do a fair bit of ruck work (though I can't find who to kick out for him...). Great to see Raph gone.

cant see how dempster makes the team and not armitage:confused:
i dont mind the idea of kossie rucking part time for king, a) because he needs to get some form back and b) we need more space in our fwd line (3 talls just isnt working).
loving the return of THE GOOSE!!!:thumbsu:

nice to see a good footballer in maguire playing again.
does this mean that geary is going to be out of the team for a while now? or do you think this is just a temporary omission since you guys are going up against geelong?

I'm pretty sure Armitage was suspended in the VFL and didn't play last weekend.

Can't exactly chuck a kid against one of the form teams after a week cooling his heels

I disgree a bit. THe beauty of him is that he backs himself in a marking contest. He was not often outmarked yet did often outmark his opponent. This is what the new rule changes are all about. He can even kick the odd goal.

He is vitally important to our chances this year, but I would not expect him to be amazing on Saturday, but servicable.

Bit intrigued - It was the midfield that was underperforming... yet it gets no changes... I would have had another midfield change in addition.. but oh well.... Goose is a good in - should add a good balance in the backline.

Yes, that IS a bit strange, especially considering in his press conference Lyon said that the midfield had not done the job, and that he was going to do a shakeup - even wierder considering that the backline did pretty well, given they had to defend against the Doggies forwards, midfield, and some of their backline all at once! Ditch Fiora, bring in Jones.
