I know, I know, we still aren't done playing yet BUT since trade rumours are flying around in papers around the country I thought we could have 1 thread where we can post links to stories that suggest any possible moves by the AFC.

I found this in the Age but surely it wouldn't be us that are interested

Fremantle forward Paul Medhurst has rejected a two-year offer from the Dockers and is assessing interest from clubs in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Re: Trade Rumours

Medhurst is probably raising his value.
But I reckon the ground under Conolly would be shaking.

Re: Trade Rumours

Its an interesting one I admit. Medhurst has been looked after so much by Connolly I find it hard to believe they dont have a special relationship. ;)

Connolly when asked , defended Medhurst by saying he would be in '' the clubs top 10 best players''

On his day Medhurst can be brilliant...like Waterhouse etc. But like Clive he needs to feel he is number 1. If Adelaide get him for next to nothing and his price is reasonable..why not. My concern is his ego. In Neil Craigs world I dont believe egos are allowed to be showcased.

Re: Trade Rumours

the crows name always seems to be put in everything, but rarely do we act on it. I think we were interested in fevola and whitnall too werent we>? Taking any player from freo is a good move too, cause hes almost certainly under performing.

Re: Trade Rumours

I have noticed his name bandied around the Port board, whether they have heard that Port have some interest in him I am not sure. I mean if we could get him cheap, a quality small crumbing forward wouldnt go unused in our side. Again I wouldnt trade too much for him though

Re: Trade Rumours

Medhurst seems like the type of player Port Power would want. The type of player everybody likes to bag but will be defended to the hilt by Port Power supporters.

Re: Trade Rumours

The Adelaide football club is always mentioned when a forward is being talked about as a possible trade. The reason the AFC is always mentioned is the perception of talented forwards the Victorian media has placed on McGregor, Perrie, Welsh and Hentschel. Had they taken the time to watch a few of our games they will see that they win games and are a good group of players.

Fevola, do we need him? Not really, would we take him if he became available? If he didn’t cost a arm and a leg and his salary was subsidized by Carlton (with a major pay cut as well) then yes have a red hot go at getting him but only if we only had to give up a second round pick or a Watts or Meeson (not both) I would look at it. :thumbsu:

Medhurst, not in a pink fit as we already have that sort of player in Welsh and Jericho :thumbsd:

Re: Trade Rumours

Medhurst peaked in 2003 and has been in decline ever since. :thumbsd: Worst still, he is clearly one of those blokes that stares at himself in the mirror all day. No thanks.

Pav is the only bloke we should be thinkin' about. A genuine superstar with 10+ years of footy still left in the tank.

I don't think we'll be very pro-active during this year's trade period. I think we will only get involved with trades if other teams push for 'em. For example, if other clubs are interested in Bode or Ladhams or Reilly, etc. then we may come to the party.

Craig's philosophy seems to be on drafting kids, not trading. And that's the right way to go IMO for the next two national drafts, at least.

Let's not forget, despite our fantastic season this year, that (behind Port & Sydney) we still have the 3rd oldest list in the comp and that we are still in need of another youth injection.

I would like him at the Crows.

Has the potential to kick huge bags and miracle goals, Vardy-esque.

What would you do with Scott Welsh? Who could not find him niche in the Adelaide Forward line with Peter Vardy? 2000 (vardy was injured most of the year and Welsh kicked 50 odd goals) and 2001 (nether contributed that much that lead to Peter Vardy wanting a trade at the end of 2001)

Medhurst and Farmer are not a very cohesive unit, who to say he will be willing to play a cameo role in the Adelaide forward line with Welsh, Perrie, McGregor and Hentschel

Re: Trade Rumours

Stiffy, I was hoping you could tell us a trade rumour or two. You came up with a beauty last year and I was hoping for more of the same. :thumbsu:

scott welsh and medhurst arent the same types of players.

He is a leading marking forward; he is not a live wire small forward in the mould of Aaron Davies or Brent Harvey

hes not a leading forward like welsh. Your right hes not a natural crumber either. I think hes made into a target forward simply cause CC isnt that smart and has medhurst and farmer often as forward targets. He could add something we dont have atm in our forward line. Freo can just include him in the deal with pav, cant go wrong :thumbsu:

If the AFC recruits him I think they will be playing with fire and could get burnt. The AFC have good player that want to work hard for the club and the players in the team as well I don’t believe that Medhurst has the characteristics (temperament and personality) that fit the mould of a player that we want on our list.

the AFC is about 'US' and 'WE' not 'I' and 'ME' and to add a player that is a 'ME' can be very dangerous to the teams dynamics.

Good points, but I get the feeling that Freo is like that as a whole and it may be the environment not the player that is the problem. There have been no major breaches of discipline that I am aware of and he may play better for a coach that imposes instructions on him.

In addition, I would be happy to pick up Lappin for a couple of years if we got him dirt cheap. I reckon he's got real value if you put him in front of a midfield that can regularly get inside 50. Wise head, durable body and goal sense=exactly what we need under the KPP's feet and around the packs.

What's the definition of cheap ? Third rounder ? Lappin is a good player with experience and in a shallow draft a third rounder wouldn't be worth much. My guess is that Carlton would look to offload Lappin for a pick between 15 and 25.

cheap would be either in a deal with the AA CHF or someone like scott stevens. We should be leaving James Fantasia with all his picks unless its for excellent talent like pav. We need to see what he can do, over the last five yrs he hasnt done alot and it is partly because we either trade away first rounders or the second and third rounders which doesnt leave him with alot to work with. Its almost pointless anyway cause it is often for players like scott stevens and multiple other B grade players that are no longer on the list. He can't work miracles, so we must give him a complete set of picks imo.

I have heard one early draft rumour involving a Geelong player. Dont know whether I can give it any credence yet.

SA player returning home? Harley? Corey Enright?

Ahhh lets not be too hasty there Jack, Fanta also has a say in trading. It's not like he is an innocent party in our trading away of high draft picks.
