Beamish won, what the heck. El Bakkali took that final 80m WAY too easy, thought he was home.

And the commentator said his tactics were poor

I thought they were great. He just didnt check his lane the last 80m. Its clear as day he starts coasting then realises ( too late ) Beamish is on him - then panics which takes him out of his stride

Great run by Kambudji with a PB to win gold in the 100m hurdles.

I have seen her and her sister run a lot during Diamond League meets and Euro season and both have been impressive.

Her sister is a 100m and 200m runner and won the 60m in the world indoors in China in March this year.

Looks like about 9 or 10 jumps is about all the petrol the best vaulters have in their tank. The top 4 all had 9 attempts.


Stephen Hooker won in 2008 with 10 jumps, but then had 3 cracks at 5.96 and got it with his 3rd attempt to get an Olympic Record.

That's the rules, you can't do that , it was a fair call. Hocker made his own bad luck trying to save ground.

I saw him at the Stawell gift. He was jumping up and down warming up and has incredible spring in his legs.
He will fly home from the 150m mark and hopefully get through.

Gout Gout will do well to make the semi-final. It's his first time racing against a big field of world class men and he hasn't broken 20 seconds for 200m yet.
I saw him at the Stawell gift. He was jumping up and down warming up and has incredible spring in his legs.
He will fly home from the 150m mark and hopefully get through.

He has broken 20s, he ran a 19.84 at nationals in Perth in April when wind reading was +2.2m/s.

If the wind was the max 2.0m/s allowed, then that would have been an 19.85 or 19.86.

Making a SF in first global meet at 17 years old will be a great result. Bolt couldn't get there in 2004 Olympics his first big open age global meet when he had just had his 18th birthday.

If the wind reading was a 4.5m/s fair enough, but when you are 17 and have broken 20 for the 200 and 10 for the 100 and the wind reading for both races was marginally over 2.0m/s, it makes sense to mention it, raise it and take it into account.

If you are 27 and have only done it once in a 10 year career, sure nobody will give it much credence.

Yeah it was a good watch. Luckily all the track events had finished so we got to see most of the jumps over 6.00m live, not on tape.
