'we don't have the luxury of going down the bottom of the ladder and restocking' Paul Roos.

No I am not Roos bashing, but to me, by keeping on keeping on, we will bottom out anyway. maybe Sydney is between a rock and a hard place, and we have blooded as many as is possible. Roos says there wont be major changes in 09, well if thats the case, we can look forward to bottoming out as far as i can see, esp if we continue to play as we are...

Making wholesale changes does not always equate to success. Who's to say that next year we won't be a chance at another flag with MOL, Hall, Kirk, Goodes, Leo, C Bolton, Kennelly etc all still playing and the likes of McVeigh, Jolly, Playfair, LRT, Teddy and the youngsters in our team all improving.

If by 'no major changes' he means he's not going to go forcing players like MOL or Leo into retirement and trading away our star players then I'm happy with that. Hopefully Everitt and Matthews will retire, Davis will be traded and maybe Ablett and Buchanan will be shopped around. That will be enough for me.

Ultimately Sydney have to restock, we have no choice unless we intend playing some guys into their 40s. And where a team finishes is not something the coach gets to choose (just ask John Worsfold). I guess he is saying he is not going to push anyone into retirement and will continue to look to trade for established payers rather than for draft picks. I just think there are enough things going for us where, whilst obviously being short of a real premiership threat, being trapped in the bottom 4 anytime soon seems unlikely IMO - even if all the 30+ players are put out to pasture over the next 2 years and we develop more young players in their place. He seems to think we'll finish near the bottom if we do that, I guess he must know something I don't!

arent we losing a whole heap of players at the end of 09? i know kenelly is going, and its hard to see MOL and leaping leo playing on past next year. I reckon we will bottom out and it will coincide with the entry of new the new franchises which will make it that much harder to restock.

we've got to start re-stocking at some point, and start blooding some more kids

with ws and gc17 taking all the high picks very soon, our side will look very ordinary unless we start taking some pro-active actions... sitting idly-by will achieve nothing

i could care less if we finished in the bottom 4 next season if we played kids like veszpremi, brabazon and currie more regularly than guys like spida, ablett, buchanen (earlier in the year) etc

we have maximised the most out of the list... things have to change... by sticking with the same old, is a cop-out

I think it is financial and the AFL ought deal with that!!!

I used to go along 92-94 not even expecting any chance of a win ... scream at Dale Lewyyy!!!! for being a limp dick!

If they continue to rig to comp so that the fat cats like WCE can take some temporary pain

WE SHOULD TOO!

There is a crisis about to happen!!!!... over and over we are reminded about it!:o

BUT there ought be PP reward for a team that goes 10/12 finals!!!!

If they don't beat Wobbles thenmake sure they lose against Lions and see how low they can get with all kids playing!!!

If they win.... GO FOR IT REALLY 110%... and knock Cats off their perch

but does that mean no one will show up in 2010????????

TIME to count the REAL FANS!!!!!!:thumbsu:

If we bottom out I'll be spewing.

I'd rather finish 7-11 each year and atleast possibly have a shot at winning a flag

Losing already ruins my week, I don't want it happening 16-18 times a year because of some far off hope that may never come to fruition.

I do not know why but that struck me as one of the more entertaining "funny" pots I have seen here:thumbsu::thumbsu:

The bold bit got me going... and the rest I absulutely agree with but still had trouble balnacing in my puter chair:D

believe me if your brain neuron cell count is > 2 you have the wood on woosha!!!!!:p

Youre not wrong. I dont really think Roosy is quite sure how to go about managing an aging list, and geez, it cant be easy being a footy coach these days. One thing is for sure, if we choose hacks like ablett over kids like Vez and Jack, we are in big trouble.

Ablett isnt a hack, he is just out of form.

Sheeesh .....that IS sad!:(

I would love there to be 4 AFL teams in Sydney!!!!!

But for the life of me .....I can't see even 2 surviving atm!!!

MADNESS!!
Gees, Corpy, please don't say that.

Bottoming out went through my mind yesterday after we lost the game like we did, but it just wouldn't be reflective of Roos' plan for us as coach or the mentality at the Swans.

it just occurred to me, how is bottoming out a luxury? as Roos described it.
Most teams can do it if they wish, as they have only themselves to think of (Richmond, Carlton - their financial situation is stable and their fan base is one to envy), whereas we not only have our member base to think of, but the greater fan base in all of Sydney to try and attract new fans too footy.

I didn't word it too well, but I hope you get the basic point.

Because other teams can tank to grab a high draft pick. We actually have to try every week because we cannot afford to many bad results.

Screw the AFL, and screw the rest, bite the bullet and force changes. As has been shown, we're already losing money, may as well go for the re-build next year and show the fans that there's actually a light at the end of the tunnel, and not just give them a worse version of this year where we might never be higher than 7th.

Don't think Port Adelaide can afford to either given the massive drop in crowd figures.

lol

i only just realised he is making those comments in reference to the fickle sydney public... we have to be good on the field to sustain economically

hopefully the afl just throws more cash at our club to fix the problem

on the bottoming out... well we don't really have an option

There was an article in the SMH today all but telling Sydneysiders to pull their heads in and cope with the Swans not making finals for a year or two. Other clubs have had it worse in the past.

try being a supporter through the 60's, 70's made only 2 finals and bowed out in straight sets

It may be inappropriate here so I will try to start with a +positive!

Swans unlikely with the "bloods culture" developed over last decade... not to have a serious go!

If however they find themselves 2W-10L they MUST under current rules tank and /or "prepare for the next year"!

It would be the best indicator the AFL could ever have to see how many Swans fans still went! ( esp to gauge stoopid WS project dillema!!!!)

It IMHO never get to the stage it was in early 90's... 5000 ish!:o

But TIME TO COUNT HOW MANY????
1. REAL FOOTY Lovers :thumbsu: and
2. REAL passionate Sydney/ Sth Melb Swans fans
( yes there is a difference;))

I reckon lots NOW.. would say go just to see gabbett jnr or Judd etc... never would have happened before!!!

The Footy Classified panel gave us a good spray tonight. Craig Hutchinson predicts a very bleak future ahead, saying it will be worse than most pundits are predicting, whereas Caroline Wilson was more optimistic saying our strength as a club means we won't spend too long at the bottom. And Glenn Archer was quiet as usual when the subject is not on the Kangaroos. Speaking of which, they brought up the 19th man topic again, saying we're robbing Richmond of a finals place!
