I was watching and the name escapes me .. the host of the show.

well they were talking about if Mick left collingwood who would he go too.

And the host said i can only see him going to help out two clubs and they were Richmond or Saintkilda and the others agreed.

we should be in for a very interesting preseason :thumbsu:

Gerard Healy is the host of the couch and he said Mick will definately stay at Collingwood for 12 months, he said he felt Melbourne pulled the trigger too early and said if they waited a year they might have had a chance at Mick, he then said at the end of next season there are 2 teams whose coach's contracts end and that is Richmond and St Kilda who Mick actually played for and wouldnt that be a fairytale possible romantic finish for Mick.

What was more interesting was that Gerald Healy completed dismissed(shut him down)the Tiges effort against the Swans, when asked by Sheehan.
His continual negative attitude towards us is getting worse and starting to p*ss me off,I actually really like 'on the couch' but the show still stems around the likes of the pies, bombers etc.....

At the moment we really dont deserve exposure..... it will take time to earn the respect of commentators.

I can see Mick wanting to come to us, but it won't work out. We won't sack Damian so that leaves a director of coaching role. Why leave a premiership club undoubtedly offering more money to go to Richmond and do the same role for less?

next year is where dimma has to prove himself. personally I think he can do it and we can make finals. Has shown some really good signs as evidenced by the goal kicking spread.

Most people would take Mick in a heartbeat however.

The only way I can see Mick replacing Hardwick is if next year we implode and a "Melbourne" type of effort occurs. If we start copping big losses next year the club will be forced not to renew his contract.

I personally couldnt handle another year of massive failure, I understand being patient but as long as I can see improvement and I think most of our supporters are the same.

Pressure is really on Hardwick next season.

Would love to have mick as dimmas mentor. Ala essendon style. Could bring heaps to the tiges.

GOOD in theory ... and I'd also consider 'Rocket' Eade as a mentor too. Has a great football brain, just as Malthouse does.
The problem I see is, Malthouse (despite denials to the contrary) and Eade definitely, both still have ambitions to be senior coach.
Think that's an unhealthy position to place Hardwick in.
Hardwick is our coach, pure and simple, his mentor needs to be a Neil Craig type who concedes his time at the top is over.
'Bomber' Thompson won't be taking over at Essendon or any other club anytime soon and that's why it works.

has everyone forgotten how long it took malthouse and thompson to build thier respective clubs into the power houses they are now?

malthouse metoring dimma? yea not gonna happen.

we'd be lucky to get eade, but he's gonna be at melbourne or the crows

Id love to get neil craig but why would he come to us over jobs at afl house or the lions?

dean laidley anyone? well known for his tactical knowledge of the game, an area where dimma has been faulted by some on here. he also wants to come back to melbourne permanently.:thumbsu:

Laidley would be an excellent acquisition:thumbsu:

Seconded. However, i think biggest priority is more development coaches so we can create that academy type environment top ut our 1st-3rd year players (99% of the list at this stage :p) into. We have a strong young list with maybe 2 drafts left to finish it off. (maybe 3) If we can afford another development coach and Laidley then that would be amazing for us.

Seriously if Hardwick needs a Mentor in his third season as coach then we are better off moving him off now.....

This Football director crap is just passing the buck around so no-one will get the blame for the teams performance...

The buck stops at the senior Coach.... he IS the director of Football.

I'm all for getting more assistants.
We need young keen enthusiastic assistants that can help push the players... not some reject ex - coach that still wants to push his chest out and show the football world he still has what it takes. All that will do is cause more friction...

GET KIRK.

Yeah I agree. Why should anyone else other than Richmond supporters find the odd win at the end of the season with nothing on the line to be of interest.

Until we push for finals, its a story about the Swans losing a grip on the finals.

We at the moment hardly get a mention on football shows and we need to change this.

Hellelujah! :)

I would think the odds are that Michael Malthouse will be coaching Richmond at the start of 2013. Hardwick has done some hard yards and is widely respected at Punt Rd. Malthouse coming to Richmond doesnt necessarily mean the end of Hardwick at Richmond, it just means that Hardwick may take up a senior role in the administration and develop his football management skills. Hardwick has a young family and not even 40 years old yet. He can work for the next 20 years in football administration without the stress of being a coach. He has a background in Accounting and Finance and added to his football stuff- that makes for a good mix in terms of football administration. This is a rumour that is going around at the moment.

Don't know about that Ramper, Hardwick strikes me as someone who has a strong passion for coaching.

I fail to see what Dean Laidley would bring to the table. I fail to see any positive impact he has had with Port. He was replaced with a better coach than him at North and the new coach had never coached before.

I keep reading how tacticly brilliant he is. Can someone please enlighten me on how he is and give examples ? He was a plodder at best that never promoted youth and nearly ran Nth Melbourne into the ground. He is a big part of why Port are so crap. Who can argue this is not the case?

agree with nut and 1980GFV - we have done sweet fa to earn any respect from media and this has been going on for at least a decade - back to 2000-1 at least. Instead we flirt with media when our season is done and dusted. Making the finals in consecutive years may start to change this perception. To do that we are going to have start winning consistently against the better sides in the comp when there is a significant benefit riding on the result

Great post!

Another great post. We might as well get David King back and have a nice reunion.

The Tigers have done very little in 30 years to deserve respect of commentators, journalists or anyone at all really.

I would think that most journalists have been burnt by predicting the Richmond as a coming force.

I believe that Hardwick is the right man for the job and that Richmond has a number of talented players that you can build a team around. The club needs to make sure that his football department is well enough financed to properly compete as you rise up the ladder.

However, until Richmond make the finals how can you expect journalists to give you respect?

I'd rather stick with Dimma and persue Craig or Eade in a Bomber Thompson role.
