“Young blokes like Sean Rusling and Harry O’Brien, Brent Hall, Benny Davies and Adam Iacobucci – these sort of blokes – all got some great experience last season and with a good pre-season they will be better for it. And they’ve all looked good on the training track.

“It was a pretty tough season on the field last year, but I think a lot has been said about our injuries, but not a lot has been said about the young blokes coming through. If we did have everyone playing then many of them would not have got the experience they did get.

“It just means that everyone is going to get better. The young guys are raising the bar, they are putting the pressure on, and now that there are blokes coming up from behind them from this year’s draft.

“Harry (O’Brien) and Heath Shaw are putting pressure on guys like myself and Ryan Lonie. That mean we have to get fitter and take our game to the next level. That can only be good for the Club.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

“We’ve got to start developing more. Wakes might be 31 (years-old), but his 2005 season was one of the best seasons that he’s ever had. He’s definitely got a couple of season left in him.

“However, we need guys like Tristan ‘Tex’ Walker to step up and take those spots. He has struggled with injury, but fully fit he could make a big impact in the coming year. I think if Tex is given the chance to settle in any one position, say centre-half back, I think that he will really be able to develop and secure a spot like that in the senior team.

“Tex has been recovering from his ankle operation. But if we look back to before the last pre-season in practice matches he played on Warren Tredrea, and gave him a hiding, and then beat Barry Hall the next week – I don’t think anyone has done that in the AFL at all. He’s got all the attributes of a great player, he’s just got to work on getting out there and being fit. We all know how good he can be.”

Nick seems to have big raps for Tristen Walker.

i love nicky maxwell, so underrated by those outside of our club its not funny. and i wouldnt want it any other way. :thumbsu:

tex is an interesting one, and i agree 100% with maxy where he says that he just needs to be left in one position to find his feet. not many rate tex, but my god with that body of his....if he can get the basic skills right, we have one bloody dangerous on our hands. the man is a beast.

They are good mates, offcourse he will say good things about him!
MAxwell is one of my favourite players, i love a good skilled tough player i hope progresses into an awesome player!

He's correct about giving Tex a chance to cement a position, such as CHB.

Malthouse has to stop delusions of granduer by playing him forward and everywhere but CHB/FB.

I totally agree, Figgy. He is a versatile footballer - no doubting that, but his best position is playing a key role in defence. Tristen can be used up forward if we have key forwards missing, but if he was ever going to find a perminent spot in the Collingwood team it must be in defence.

There is so much to like about nick Maxwell. His courage , good hands good kick but the thing I like most about him is his leadership and the fact this kid does not forget where he came from . Every time I have been to a willi game he is always there supporting his younger team mates. I don't know the guy but he seems like a really top bloke and these kind of people are invaluable at footy clubs. He has a big future.

Re Tex. He will only survive as a defender. He is quick ,tall and huge. He will be able to keep up with any key forward and all he needs to learn is to use his body better and spoil. He will never be a forward ,he cannot read the play and cannot hold onto the ball. I just hope Malthouse does not persist with him up forward. Besides we need to start looking to replace presti and wakes

Nick Jimmy Clement Maxwell. Plays just like his idol, what better roll model

could you ask for. I agree with all that you have said about him could he

be the long awaited Darren Millane that we have craved for in the making?

On Tex i believe that this guy may be under estimated, i agree defence

should become his own, inparticular CHB. As far as a forward its always

handy to have a Leppa in your team that you could call upon from time to

time when need up forward. I am hoping with the spoils of riches we

have up forward he wont be needed. Hres an opportunity to develop an

"A" class backline. ie: Tex,C1,Maxy,Swanny,Shaw (1 or 2) for

the future. Heres hoping anyway.:thumbsu:

In his first senior season (2004) I wasn't a huge fan for him, unknown reasons, but I just thought there were others in line before him to get a go, can't remember. In 2005 he grew on me, and is the star on my desktop wallpaper.
