Even though im in victoria ive got family in wa and my cousin jason works at the Fremantle Football Club and he said that Daniel Haines has been told that he will not be offered a new contract
Sorry for posting this so late was just talking to my cousin before

I am not surprised at all about that! He has had a horror run with injuries and this year has never really been in the mix for selection so there was not much chance of him being retained.

Best of luck to the former Mandurah Senior High School boy, and maybe he will be picked up for a chance with one of the struggling Melbourne clubs.

Wouldn't be surprised... but as he was re-drafted last year, does he not have a 2 year contract, or does this just apply to new draftees?

Oh yeah - and welcome petmax... always nice to have a new purple person to add to the ranks!!

PS what's your dog's name?

2 year minimum contracts only apply to new draftee's.

I guess that's pretty much expected. Bad luck and all the best to Daniel and his family, may he stay injury free.

Now, dammit, that just reinforces my frustration that we didn't take Swallow with that pick. Even though we were possibly doing the 'right thing' by Daniel (via prior agreement) at the time.

Agree 250% on both points blocker.

I'll see your 250% and raise you another 50%. Blocker makes an excellent point about Swallow but perhaps it should be in reference to the selection of the other: Krieger, Juniper, Copping and the other one.

I read somewhere that there is a minimum age for the national draft, but the minimum age for the rookie draft is slightly higher.

Due to above, Swallow was probably eligible for the national draft but could not be rookied.

Correct. Bottom age players (basically anyone who still qualifies to play under 18's the following season) cannot be rookied. If they miss out in the National Draft, they have to wait another 12 months.

I doubt whether any delistings will happen (especially in Daniels case) prior to the London match with West Coast 2 weeks after the grand final. That gives the coaching staff another opportunity to let them play off for a spot in the team. In Daniels case he missed the pre-season and most of the season, then managed to spend the last month or so playing for Peel Thunder trying to regain match fitness. I'd be very surprised if he wasn't in the team playing in London. If he gets delisted (which is likely), I wouldn't be surprised if they pick him up again with a late pick.

I thought I'd get a bite. I just think you know what you're going to get with him, he's reliable off half back and he's more use to the side (fit) than Schofield and McManus (a hell of a lot more).

I don't doubt that there is more to add from him being in the team, especially than Schofield who I think is finished. The reason why Schofield and McManus are staying on the list next year is because they have another year to run on their contracts. If we are going to redraft someone from our delistees (even though I went to school with Haines), it would hope it would be any of the other contender's to be delisted i.e. Dylan Smith, Andrew Sieget, Luke Webster, Dion Woods, who I think all have more to offer than Haines.
