Get rid of one field umpire - they try to compete with each other for the limelight and consequently are paying free kicks that are totally wrong, very borderline (ie not necessary) or just not there - I keep seeing so many over-umpired games where stupid petty decisions halt the play, and confuse the players and watchers. Fifty metre penalties for 'protected area' are being handed out to players who are just running downfield to get to the next contest, or following an opponent - they're not actually influencing the player with the ball at all, yet often with a 50 this ends up as a goal that hasn't been earned. They constantly get in the way of players. Then you would also get the benefit of having umpires that can bounce the ball properly.

The third umpire was brought in to look for behind the scenes incidents etc - with cameras everywhere now 2 umpires are plenty change it back.

I like an equal/rotating draw with the teams who earn it to able to play finals wherever they like, including the grand final.

I would also like a billionaire to donate $10billion dollars to the AFL so that they do what is right rather then chasing $$$ everywhere they can.

I don't mind hearing the umps, at least you get to hear their explanation for the free kick instead of sitting there thinking "wtf was that for??"

I just want them to stop bringing in new rules every damn year! The game was great as it was 15 years ago, it doesn't need to evolve every single year with new rules. Even the umps can't keep up with all the rule changes as we're seeing now with incorrect calls being made and admitted to.

I'm with you. I might not agree with every decision but hearing their perspective helps understanding. Hey sometimes, they see things that the camera angle didn't pick up.

Proper draw / fixturing with no ridiculous "handicap" style system. All teams to play all other teams the same number of times home and away over a specific number of years. No teams to be excluded from having to play at different grounds (ie. Geelong, Tasmania - wherever).

I would also like a billionaire to donate $10billion dollars to the AFL so that they do what is right rather then chasing $$$ everywhere they can.

Sadly I don't think this would make any difference. The issue is one of integrity and willpower - they have enough money to do it now, they prefer the profit.

Yes by ten thousand.
You can't be within ten meters or whatever of the guy with the ball yet they can stand right next to the guy on the mark. :drunk:

Hawthorn did this to the Tigers on Sunday everytime they kicked out of fullback and all over the field. Cyril and Pop are the worst offenders.

Hawthorn do it all the time and they will keep doing it because they are allowed to do it by the umpires. Similarly, Hawthorn really push the line on letting the opposition player get up when the Hawthorn player has given a free kick away. They will try and slow their opponent down as long as possible. Luke Hodge used to be a master at it.

It's clear to me that the Hawks players are instructed to do both of those things. In the first case, it can result in the player with the ball running an extra 5-10 metres before kicking, allowing him to get more depth on his kick (which is a big advantage if the Hawthorn players downfield set up expecting that, but their opponents don't).

In the second case, every second they delay their opponent allows their defense more time to get into their defensive structures.

It's the little things they do like that, that make them a really good team. They push the boundaries because they know they can get away with it. I just wish that the umpires didn't allow it as I don't like the look of it.

Remove the front on contact rule in marking contests. A game where a bloke can be knocked unconscious going back with the flight but then a fingernail on them if your stationary and facing them is a free kick
I second this, if you’re brave enough to be going back with the flight with only eyes on the ball you shouldn’t be penalised.

Get rid of the rule that if you get suspended you can’t win the Brownlow, a lot of the time in our unreliable and at times stupid suspension system the player shouldn’t of even been suspended, the game is going soft.

NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at the risk of EVERYTHING

Be softer on melees, We need more fighting.

This will never happen, but it should.

At the Hawks Tigers game on Sunday there was 70 thousand, blue skies and two teams in form. This should be a recipe for excitement. But the crowd didn't say boo for most of the game, rarely got involved.

Didnt want to get into Hardwicks personal space

Introduce 15 meter penalties for things which require more than a free kick but don't requie a 50 meter penalty.
Issue with that ( and I tend to think there should be a half-measure) is that people will then complain some 15s should have been 50s etc

I think they stayed low key out of concern for Damien Hardwick.
