If you aren't excited for a start of a season and feel the need to specifically express that you don't care, why even bother supporting or posting at all?
I just have no optimism that we will be any good either this year or in the near-medium term future. The history of the club for the last 35 years gives me no reason to think otherwise.

Looking around at pre-season predictions and it seems like absolutely everyone gives us no chance this year and have us finishing around 12th.
We are going to surprise many. Gonna be a fun year.
I have us at 10th. If I were to give a range, it would be 10-12. A much better and more entertaining season from last year but perhaps still not back in finals.

I personally don't think it is unreasonable to have us out of the 8. Many do raise a couple of good points that may work against us in the season. I myself have a couple of points, and the optimists in this thread may not like what I have to say on this.

- For one, our list demographics still doesn't look like a finals calibre side to me, with teams like St Kilda, GWS, Sydney and Melbourne having a better balance of talent in talls, smalls and mediums spread around the ground. I feel like most of our talent on our list is lumped in the inside midfield department, in one tall forward, in one tall defender and in the small forwards.

- Our deficiencies in KPFs specifically seems to make scoring that much harder for us, and even I felt tired watching them work hard in order to score in the preseason. That work rate is something that I don't expect the players to be able to keep up throughout the entire season, and we may have got a glimpse of what could happen with a drop in work rate in the Collingwood first quarter where the scoring + defending plummeted with the drop in work rate. We simply don't have the amount of rotations and players on the bench in the real season to be able to keep up the work rate that we showed in the preseason IMO (unless of course we stuck to the 90 rotations, I don't know if we did though).

Simply put, I am a bit cautious of interpreting our solid good form in the preseason to mean a whole deal for the season proper given that I felt our good form was because of hard work and not necessarily because of our skills (we had many ordinary moments from a skill and decision-making perspective). And, given that we had unlimited rotations and an increase in bench numbers, I am starting to wonder if our preseason form was deceiving, and if we are only a bit better than last year.

Completely agree our KPF's aren't the best in the comp.

Also don't expect to finish much higher than 10th.

But I reckon scoring looked easier for us in the pre-season than it has in ages. I really, REALLY like one player staying all alone at full forward. It means we essentially play 17 vs 18 until we get the ball forward, but when we do, there’s plenty of easy “Joe the Goose” goals out the back.

Seems like less work than grinding stoppage after stoppage at half forward for a snap from the pack. Or relying on a contested mark.

We'll average more than 77 points this season. We'll also get scored against more heavily, unless Rance grows another pair of arms. It'll be more fun than whatever that was last season.

The people predicting us to finish outside the 8 don't annoy me, I've got us anywhere from 5th-13th, it's the people predicting us bottoming out. A lot would have to go wrong for that to happen, about the same as would have to go right for us to be top 4/challenging for a flag.

I am much the same for anyone saying that we finish wooden spooners. Our list quality, our draw and our gameplan is too good for that low of a finish IMO.

With last year's list, coaching group and gameplan, I would probably have put Richmond in the bottom 4 myself this year, but I don't think we'll see that after all of these changes.

An opposition coach would never leave Dusty unmanned in the goal square.
