Enjoyed schwattas and the depression awareness is always important, but a bit more about his footy would be good, might just be me
Yeah same. He spoke really well, but I felt they went on a bit too much for the depression and could have spent more time on the footy.
Was pissed when he left North but glad that his time in Sydney gave him the moment to get himself right.

Didn't like last night whatsoever. Needs to focus on more flamboyant, interesting characters. While Schwass's story is important, it didn't make for interesting viewing. Give me Open Mikes with Carey, Lockett, Modra, Bruuuuuuuuuuuce, Voss (?), Ross Oakley, Gerard Healy... Shame the season's almost over because I love this show. :hearts:

Well, there you go, I found last night's episode utterly fascinating. As Schwass himself said, there he was playing out the fantasy of many a young boy, and he was miserable. Not everyone has a story like Mark Maclure or Dougie Hawkins, and I for one would like to hear them all.

Maybe he meant Junior?

Yep meant Teddy Jnr.

Also another Bulldogs player who would be great on Open Mike would be Gary Dempsey, almost killed when he got caught and burnt in a bushfire and was told he would never play again only to end up getting the most total Brownlow votes of any player in the history of the game and ended up in Footscray's team of the century.

Yeah it could of gone more into footy too and gone an hour

But i was hooked on what i saw, it takes courage to share like he did

Would love to hear from Dempsey.

If only to hear him talk for half an hour in that awesomely raspy voice of his.

Unfortunately I don't remember Mckernan in his prime. I remember him being booed by his own supporters at Optus Oval playing for the blues.

Seems like he was a weird player. Very good and very bad.

i do and from 95-97 he was one of the best players in the league, from the interview it was obvious the difference between him and Carey was that Carey believed he was the best and Corey had doubts mentally.

No views on Rhys Jones? Haven't seen it myself yet

Fairly good episode. Covered quite a few topics . Don't want to give away too many spoilers. ;)

Didn't know he was one of the original Sydney Swans. Always thought he started and finished with Carlton. Also used to hit the durries pretty hard before a game.

Loved it!

I don't really care for Rhys-Jones generally, but I thought he was great. Some interesting stories. Lots of biff talk. Perfect. :)
Agree. It was one of the better ones, this season at least. Comes across as a likeable bloke.

Doug Wade next week. Should be good, given what he shared in The Final Story interviews.

He and Capper played at Oakleigh together before they both joined the Swans.

I thought Mike was a little condescending with Rhys Jones when it came to talking about physical altercations, kept inferring that Rhys couldn't really look after himself, whereas guys like Williams were supposedly good with their hands. As Rhys mentioned very rarely would any of these guys stand toe to toe, and sniping or at least collecting players when they were vulnerable was more the order of the day. I did hear that in Diesel's Geelong era even in practice matches for example, he would wack teammates off the ball, but complain to Hafey when he copped the same.

So that aspect of the interview annoyed me, it would take a lot of courage to be a lightly-framed guy like Rhys-Jones and play the way he did, continuing to dish it out while knowing that you were going to cop it hard at some stage.

Williams was nothing more than a sniper, the only time he'd have a swing at someone was when they were lying on the ground or weren't looking.then as Rhys said he'd go whinging to the umps when he copped one,gun player, shit bloke.

Obviously it won't happen for a while, but an Open Mike with John Worsfold would be a cracking show I would have thought as long as he opens up a lot more than he normally does.
Agreed, it would need an hour though. Be far too much to get through in a half hour slot.
