The interesting about the respective grand finals of 1980 was whereas Collingwood hit the wall by quarter time in the VFL grand final of 1980 and lost by 81 to Richmond, Norwood on the other hand pushed Port all the way and only lost by 3 goals. And both teams came from 5th on the ladder in their respective leagues and made it to the grand final.
I've seen a lot of Norwood vs Port matches over the years and with the intense rivalry it was very rare to see a flat effort from the Legs.
A 3rd time Norwood came from 5th (barely made finals) was 1999 only to lose in the dying stages by 9 pts, again to Port :(

Your forgot "So Brent, any idea how to fill the remaining 27 minutes of this program?"

classic.

I don't understand why they give a mug like Guerra a full 30 minutes yet Voss/Bucks heaps of others could have EASILY gone for an hour. And then Nixon gets an hour to sound like the creepy moron he is.

I agree it was weird interviewing him as he wasn't exactly a star of the comp as most of the interviewees are.

However, a mug? He played over 250 games and was one of, if not the most underrated Hawthorn player of the past 8 or so years.

They follow it up with Mooney next week who isn't much chop either in terms of star status.

So you reckon they should've just had a 10 minute edition of Open Mike and filled in the next 20 minutes with highlights of the 2005 The World's Strongest Man Competition ?

Mooney is even worse considering the guy can't string a sentence together and was genuine B grade.

Didn't like the Guerra interview but next week's guest is North and Geelong champion Cam Mooney. Will be fascinating to hear why he decided to leave North Melbourne at the end of the '99 season for Geelong.

Because he was barely getting a game and because his former reserves coach at North Melbourne just got the senior job at Geelong.

I like brent guerra.

Mike has interviewed Steven Baker, and other lesser regarded AFL players who have decent stories of overcoming the odds to play enough games they get life membership and a premiership if theyre lucky.

Brent has 2...

Don't get the slander regarding his interview. I thought it was as interesting as some other non superstars.

The lame ones have been players while playing (judd) and interviewing Buckley while coaching. Bleh

Even SOS was suspect, given a bit of his answers had to be censored to his professional capacity in light of his GWS role.

I am more interested in Mike focusing on the behind the scenes machinations of the AFL - Interview a Graham Scanlon or a Jeff Browne or a Geoffrey Edelstein or a John Elliot or some older players/coaches like Peter Daicos, Rene Kink, Bruce Doull, Grant Thomas etc.

I didn't mind Guerra's interview either. He had a pretty interesting career - the entirety of which was at strong clubs - played at Port when we were bloody close to a flag, the Saints when they were making prelims and of course Hawthorn where he broke through for a couple of flags and swag of finals appearances. Being fairly young, I didn't know why he left Port at the end of 2003 and completely forgot about him being delisted in 2005 so I found that part of it pretty interesting. Completely agree with the sentiments above that a player like Guerra has a heck of a lot more to offer than a stock standard interview with a current star.

Errr...he was traded for Leigh Colbert.

Could Mike ever get Ron Barassi on the show or is his health/memory failing him now?

I would also like to hear from people directly involved in turning the VFL into the AFL in the 80s and 90s, e.g. Ross Oakley as the topic is of great interest to me.
