Watching Neita being interviewed, as with all players I grew up watching, I try to remember moments that were published in newspapers that involved them and with Neita, I don't remember him being on the front cover of the Herald Sun.

that would be a really good interview, jakovich was a bit of a unit on the footy field, i remember watching a game, melbourne vs west coast, when both Allen and Glen where playing, Allen kept giving it to Glen, a few decent sprays & tried to rough him up. glen didn't do much in return, but dominated the game

I remember being a kid and my Dad taking me to training (circa 2002). Was shocked when Neita called the boys together for a 'rev-up' for the weekend's game and he sounded like Kermit the Frog. Only difference was every other word was '****'

Yeah he was a great player seems a real nice bloke, but that voice surprised me

Jeff Farmer had a career-best year as Melbourne's main forward, Russell Robertson kicked 40-odd goals, Adem Yze and Stephen Powell both kicked 30-plus for the year, and David Schwarz played all 25 games as well, so the Dees simply had more avenues to goal that season than they did between 2002-2006 (where Neitz kicked 60+ goals in 4 out of 5 seasons). I don't seem to recall Neitz being an out-and-out Full Forward until the latter part of his career anyway. He spent more time at CHF as well as switching back on occassion prior to that.

Pretty much this. Once the Ox was out for the count we really didn't have another true KPF for...well, since ever, really. (Brad Miller and er, maybe Juice Newton would be closest).

Pretty amazing how much talent Melbourne had during the '90s, particularly up forward, that got curtailed or held back by injury and off-field stuff, or just disappeared:

Would have to be the biggest "what if" era for a club over the last 20-25 years I reckon.

All things going right and everyone fit and firing, Melbourne could have easily snagged a premiership or two in the late '90s.

Geelong was coming off a record winning grand final margin and was on top of the ladder. Melbourne had lost their first 2 games by 200 points and was on the bottom. Don't see how Melbourne was expected to win.

Neitz was a better CHB than CHF. Neitz was the heir apparent to G.Jakovich as the best CHB in the AFL, until he was moved into attack

Didn't see the episode, but if that's what they stated they were flat out wrong. In fact I remember the bookies placing Melbourne at record odds! Geelong was coming off obviously the 2007 premiership but also defeated the runner-up again at AAMI Stadium in Round 1 and beat Essendon by 99 points in Round 2. Melbourne was on the bottom with a percentage of 36.8%. In fact, Melbourne getting within five goals was considered a 'win' for them that day.

Before the match, both the Geelong VFL and AFL teams unfurled their premiership flags on the ground. Bomber Thompson later said that was a bit of a distraction and got in the way of the team's buildup.

AS GEELONG prepares to unveil its premiership flag on Sunday against the winless Melbourne, an Australian betting agency has made history offering unbackable odds of $1.01 for the Cats to win.
The Demons, who have been beaten by a combined total of 199 points in the first two rounds of the season, are out to $34 to knock off the premiers on their home turf by Sportsbet.com.au.

Not since 1996, when Fitzroy - in its last season - played West Coast, has a team had such long odds, but Geelong coach Mark Thompson said he expects the Demons to be competitive.

"I'm sure they won't be like that all year," he said. "They'll win a game soon."

Thompson said his players would pay the same amount of respect to the bottom-placed team as they would any other.

"Look at their line-up, they'll still play a strong line-up. Sure, they haven't played the most competitive football but you know that they'll come out of this cycle.

"If we don't give them as much respect as other teams . . . we're not that much better than Melbourne that we can afford to do that."

Thompson said he will keep the process leading into the match "as normal as possible" and does not believe his players will be distracted by the unveiling of the 2007 premiership flag in front of a packed Skilled Stadium crowd.

"For a couple of moments, we will enjoy . . . our performances of 2007, but as soon as we go back into the rooms, we'll be locked back into the game.

"I'm sure it will be a proud moment, (but) I think it is more for the fans."

The coach confirmed ruckman Brad Ottens will miss another week due to an ankle injury, but denied the longer-than-expected recovery is due to structural damage.

"No . . . just soft-tissue stuff," Thompson said. "He hasn't been getting any better. I'm sure he's not far away but it's all depending on how he feels. He hasn't even started running yet.

"He might play next week, it could be two weeks or three weeks. We don't really know."

I'd have to look it up again, but it was basically Mike setting the scene. '2007, Geelong down at KP, a game you were expected to win....you didn't, and you got a bake from the coach...etc'

EDIT: It was the game where Neitz and Bailey had a bit of a falling out apparently...Neita left the ground in a huff.
