he really spoke from the heart. not cliched, or fearing offending a network/radio station/newspaper/magazine he may or may not work for
As someone else posted I think he summed up why Geelong never quite got the flag in his time.

I'd like to see more people like him for the reasons you mentioned.

I liked it. I was hoping he'd go a little bit more into the work he does at the Falcons but it was still a very honest and interesting interview.

Uploaded it for a few fellas on the D&T board, perhaps some who missed it would get some use out of it too.

Somewhat understandable as he was a better footballer than Peake yet Peake is in the HOF and he isn't.
I judge players on how they perform at the highest level and that was VFL.

Wouldn't the higher level be State of Origin which Peake dominated, the difference between VFL - SANFL & WAFL was not that great, some players came over & dominated (Blight) & some didn't reach expectations (Peake) but Peake was still AA 3 times and even named captain of the AA team twice not to mention all the other accolades he got in little old WA.

I enjoyed the OM with Mick Turner.

When I saw who it was I was wondering whether the rumour that was around in the late 70's about Turner and a woman would be brought up. Mind you it was only a rumour and probably has no substance to it. But it was a big rumour at the time.

Turner was a great player and I thoroughly enjoyed his battles with Keith Greaig and Schimma.

I knew State Of Origin would be mentioned, yes I agree with you about it being a higher level and Peake starring in those games. However we are talking one game a year of state of origin between VIC and WA. I would prefer Turner's output over a long VFL career to a few state games over a few years period for Peake. WAFL and SANFL were very good competitions but it wasn't the VFL.
Are there any reasons why Peake didn't live up to the hype for Geelong? I mean compared to his feats in State of origin and WAFL? Personally VFL accomplishments should be the pre-cursor for a spot in the HOF. Guys like Peake and Cornes etc, although champions in their state leagues, shouldn't be inducted before champion VFL players. Nothing against interstate players, dudes like Peter Matera would get my vote in a split second for the HOF. Peake etc, before the likes of Turner, Wayne Johnston etc, sorry, I don't agree with.

Oh come on. You have to spill the rumour after that!

The strength of Turners whinge/sook is he needs to, he needs to base his whinge/sook on denigrating Bomber, not parading his strengths.

Mick you were better than that, I cringed as you sooked & Open Mike paraded its bias, an inability to see beyond one States border ... Sad !

I use to have Ablett: One Special Season on VHS when I was younger, not even a Cats supporter but I would watch it all the time.

It's an in-depth interview with Sandy Roberts, during 1993 when Ablett was a human highlights reel.

Spoke about Leigh Matthews being the best/favourite player he ever saw on the field if I recall.

Yep, right at the beginning of the interview.

You are aware how old Peake & Ebert were? What does it tell you about VFL clubs, probably nothing eh q ??

It wasn't the 70s, it was reportedly after either the '80 or '81 prelim. A Melbourne supporter mentioned it early the next season at the G. He almost had hsi head taken off with a football for his trouble when Turner puffed it at him.

I really enjoyed Turner, thought it was honest and he spoke well. Quite engaging. Didn't find him arrogant at all.
Not sure you'd want to get on his bad side though.
From some of the camera angles (mainly the front ones), I thought I was watching Ed O'Neill (Al Bundy).

50 goals in 6 games. LOL!

As they were going through the games round by round I was saying "please don't be us that gets reamed, please don't be us that gets reamed"

What a freak.

Even Turner said that State of Origin was a level up on most VFL finals he played.

I do enjoy Open Mike, but its starting to become too Vic-centric for my tastes lately.

It'd be good to get some more insight into the other states and the challenges and triviliations that the players in those leagues faced.
Unfortunately the show is Open Mike, Sheahan covered footy in essentially Victoria, he knows all of the back stories on the people he is interviewing. To do so for WA & SA would require other journo's to do it.

Selfishness & politics prevented them from becoming a premiership team.

To be honest, I'm kinda just going by memory, fill me in Kwality, if I'm wrong, I'll admit to it. If Peake and Ebert were over the Hill when they came to vic, then sure your side of the debate becomes more valid.

Spot on. So many players came to the VFL from the SANFL or WAFL. Very few went the other way. Bulldog Murray would have been the last top player to do it, and when was that? The 60s?

You are aware how old Peake & Ebert were? What does it tell you about VFL clubs, probably nothing eh q ??
Peake was 27 when he joined Geelong. He should have been at his - what's the word - best.

Peake came to the VFL the same year as Ken Hunter and Peter Busustow. They were both better than him. The next year Maurice Rioli and the Krakouer brothers came; they were all better than him. Gary Buckenara was better. Brad Hardie.

Mick Turner was an electrifying player, clearly better than the Brian Peake we saw at Geelong.
