A lot of work is going on already, supported by the AFL. Vic has a population of 7 million, supports 10 AFL clubs. Taz population of 800k should be enough to support a team. The addition of Tasmania should only add to the AFL experience, and the addition of an AFL team and new multi purpose stadium should only add to the appeal of Hobart specifically and Tasmania generally. There are millions of people just a 45 minute flight away, so they won't have trouble filling the venue.

It will be a huge success. Passionate footy state so getting crowds won’t be an issue. 23k state of the art stadium, so even a 15k crowd under a roof will be a great atmosphere. Membership will be big due to 800k population with only one team to choose.

Then there’ll be a large contingent of Victorians travel there for away games for a weekend away.

And if GWS can retain a decent core of players in a non-footy heartland with pitiful crowds then why would we think there’d be a mass exodus from Tassie or a reluctance for players to go there - because it’s a bit chilly ?

The state will boom off the back of their own team and in a short time will be a raging success.
