Can anyone else remember the fateful day we wore the orange jumpers in 2000 against the Pies?

What a hideous site!

Shocking jumper, but I wish I had one.

A Hawks supporting mate of mine, who worked for Orange at the time, bought Wayne Carey's playing jumper from that game, at an auction.

The price???

$4,000.....................I kid you not! He saw it as a great earner down the track. He sold it a couple of years ago for about half that price.

T'toes

Hawks supporters, so stupid :D

We lost by 18 points against Collingwood at Telstra Dome in Round 21, 2000. We were clinging to 3rd - which was important as 4th would have had to have played Essendon in the 1st week of the finals (The Dons lost their only game for the year in that round). We didn't look the part (in more ways than one) all afternoon and got done by a side who had only won once since Round 5. We ended up 4th and our effort against Essendon a fortnight later was poor to say the least (125pt loss). Melbourne, who grabbed 3rd, got all the way to the Grand Final.

As much as that first final was disappointing, imagine that happening to us on GF day!

As bad as it sounds, I can remember thinking that it wouldn't be all that bad to lose to the Dees in that prelim final. We'd have been murdered.

Ah, I remember it like it was yesterday. One of my worst H&A memories.

That game had so much riding on it, we played terribly, we looked ridiculous, and it was against Collingwood of all teams. Plus my relationship with my partner was only new then and - for the last time - I put up with a black and white scarf hanging out the window on the way home. The memory of that alone makes breathing hurt. Thanks jonty for bringing back my NIGHTMARE.

We made that prelim out of habit.

Ahh, the good old orange jumper. What a terrible day at the footy. But it did establish one of the great hatreds in footballing history. NorthBhoy VS Nick Davis. My word do I detest that toe rag. He kicked the winner. Just thinking about him makes me want to murder kittens.

I HATED losing to Melbourne. ********ing hated it.

There is something very wrong about North being heckled by Melbourne supporters.

I lost it near the end of the game. Sholl had kicked a bag, had just slotted another one and some Demon ******** yelled out "Yeah, good on you Sholl - what have you ever done ".

"How about playing in two ********ing premiership teams in the last four years you stupid ********ing mother ********er!!"

It wasn't the most eloquent or witty comeback - but he got the point.

I hate Melbourne.

When i was at the club for work experience there was one in the changing rooms, i asked the training manager if i could buy it, but he said it was the last one and they wanted to keep it, dammit

Me too

That prelim, brings back memories f'n Farmer pulling them out of his a$#@ and the entire MCC members and Olympic standing whinging every f'n decision and chanting 'BALL!' every time we touched the pill. And seeing the scarves out the window of 4WD's in the G car park (further reinforcing the MFC sterotype) didn't help either.

But a week earlier vs Hawthorn at the G was enjoyable, you know you have it in the bag when Stuey Cochrane slots one from 50 on the run. :D

I remeber it being damn hard to see them on the sunny far side of the ground because the orange didn't contrast enough.

Anyone else remeber the black shorts?

A win would have been worth it for the "hearts to hearts and hands to hands, beneath the orange and white we stand"

Yes I remember the black shorts. That was a mistake. They should have been orange. It made it hard to distinguish our players from Collingwood's. i hope they never wear that again.

as if they will, it was a once off promotion

Whether we like it or not, it's now part of the clubs history and folklore. And for that reason, I am keen to get my hands on one of these someday.

Well if had been done in earlier years this # 22 orange would have been worn by the Fridge himself, Mark Roberts, and not the Spider. What an even more hideous site!
