OT: Ben Cousins

I would be going 100 miles an hour for him if the WCE sack him (or as has been intimated) ask him to resign today so he and the club can save face. Pick him up in the PSD.

I would offer him an incentive based contract and if he can stay out of trouble he will earn more, if not he will earn minimum wages.

What have we got to lose? IMO not much as we all know he is troubled and we will not have to give anything up for him. If he turns himself around, we have picked up a superstar player, if he stuffs up again we sack him and have lost nothing.

I believe he is trying to clean himself up but staying in Perth for Chris Mainwaring funeral and a few other temptation have gotten the better of him. He needs to get out of Perth for his own health and wellbeing even if it has nothing to do with AFL football.

Do it Crows – go after Benny.

Yep, after sacking Pfieffer for partying etc, and suspending players for breaking a curfew, I'd be pretty positive that the Crows would be hell bent on picking up Benny.

Love his tatt. though.

Ben Cousins is an idiot.

There is no way the crows would pick him up anyway even though i'd think about it.

It seems to me JR tells the club NO WAY to any players who get in the least bit of trouble.

I think JR needs to go personally....

Deserves nothing less than to be de-registered. Go and sort yourself out in your post football days.

Agreed! :thumbsu: He should NOT be within an environment (read: At ANY AFL club) where the culture is pretty much the same - money, women, partying. It does not help the addicted to be constantly surrounded by so many temptations. De-register him and let him go somewhere quiet to sort his life out.

I wouldn't want him at Adelaide - no matter how good he is. We wouldn't be doing him OR us any favours.

Recipe for Ben Cousins;

take 1 schoolage kid, give him instant stardom and far too much money.
Now put him under incredible pressure and scrutiny.
mix this with media attention and no private life.
Expect him to perform at an elite level, training 6 days a week without any signs of hangover, excess fat fold (which will be tested weekly) or into the sweat room until you vomit into the bucket kept by the "touture bike".
Now expect media smarts, social apropriateness and exemplatory standrards of ethical behavior to be demonstrated..................leave to bake.............

whoops got too hot and cracked???

place in bin and lets try to make that again

How many Ben Cousins are already out there in the system, but just not quite cracked yet?

I hate drugs and have witnessed many OD's and deaths from them, most people addicted to them are trying to escape reality or numb their pain. This guy is hurting and caught up in culture which is responsable for his creation.

Oh what terrible lives AFL footballers have to live  GIVE ME A ***IN' BREAK!

How 'bout take some responsibility and snort a big bag of toughen the **** up. I don't think one Chris Judd required drugs to escape his "harsh" AFL life of being in the spot light, earning big $$$. For every drug user there is thousands who have dealt with similar lives/issues without resorting to drugs. TAKE SOME ****ING RESPONSIBILITY AND STOP BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE.

Oh the boss has just had a crack at me for using company time on the internet, oh woo is me, better have some speed at lunch to cope.

I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole!

It is well documented that Cousins is mixing with the underworld crime figures in Perth. Do you honestly think that those same people don't have links to Adelaide gangs?! Unfortunatly once you get into those circles its impossible to get out of them because their networks are all over the country. Ben can move away from Perth all he likes but he will ALWAYS be linked to the underworld no matter where he goes. Once you are in, you can't get out.

You know thats just a ****ing cop out. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I am pretty sure that there would be many on BF that have lived a much tougher life than Ben Cousins or many other AFL footballers but they have not let it ruin their lives. Thats just a big excuse by people.

I am sorry but if you have been brought up the right way and with right attitude to life you won't get trapped into dodgy associates and culture that Ben got trapped into. Life is a challenge because it keep throwing stuff at us that we need to get around. So what are we supposed to do when it gets a bit tough, turn to drugs to "zone out" and "get away from it"?! Give me a break.

If you have enough conviction in yourself and your values and beliefs you wil NOT be tempted. I am happy to say that in my younger days I was a regular in night life in Adelaide. VIPs to some of the most exclusive clubs in the state at the time that were pumping every night and had a shitload of dodgy dealings and shady characters. VIP nights where drug taking was open and rife but not once was I tempted to try it to get away from pressures of life. What a ****ing cop out!

If people don't have the courage and mental strength to live life and face challenges that come with it then take some responsibility for your actions and stop blaming anyone else but yourself.

There have been MANY sportstars over the years in sports that are under much bigger scrutiny and pressure than the AFL where the players get labelled as franchise players and have the faith of their team in the hands at well as multi-million dollar contract to live up to. Some of those players don't turn to drugs to get away from it. They embrace the challenge and move on. The easiest thing to do is to give up and give in to temptations.

i miss the planet. let's petition mcdermott to re-open it.

I can't see them cutting him loose. Would Adelaide cut Roo loose if he did the same as Cousins, yet still managed to play great football and be a terrific on-field leader?

If they decide to send him back to train with his WAFL club, then so be it, that's fine with me.

Hehehe Roo aint that stupid!:p

Hmm anybody hear KG and Cornsey talking about how the charges have been dropped. Plus the interview with his lawyer...
IMO it was the crappest interview i've heard in a while yet they acted as it was the most fascinating one.
Ben's Lawyer was extremely unimpressive and kept on saying i'm not this lawyer i'm not that lawyer can't answer that blah blah blah.
Ben can get off because it is a new law etc etc....

Fascinating re-read in retrospect.

Yes but there's even more fascinating reading, the wash up of the 2006 and 2005 preliminary finals! Van Berlow who played on Cousins in 06 has some interesting observations that coupled with what we know now!
