World cup in Germany 2006 will be live and exclusive on SBS

Ned Zelic was the special comments and he was good, informative and balanced in his commentary, he showed class. Ned Zelic could have open fire at Frank Farina but showed enough class to allow the moment to be appreciated.

you wouldnt expect a former player to have a crack at a coach on a national broadcast. Dont know about informative either, needed to drop the cool act.

Craig Foster was extremely one eyes and bias towards the Australian side, but so what. The game was being televised towards a very pro Australian audience and his passion and enthusiasm for the game shone through. Craig Foster is a former Adelaide City player and looks very comfortable behind the camera.

In the first match i thought he showed some good tactical knowledge as well at times in the second leg, but his game commentary was embarrassing.

Yes, what was with that. Very annoying. Hopefully SBS improve by the WC. Cricket coverage was good. So I dont see why trouble would be had with coverage from Sydney.

Would like to know the ratings if anyone knows. Might be a bit early but. :)

The flickering wont happen during the WC as they will take the host nations feed. Just like the cricket they took TV4's feed and it was fine. ;)

Just been announced that the ratings were :

At some point during the game 6.5 mill were watching for more than 5 minutes or longer;

Averaged out at 3.3 mill during the whole game; and

5.6 mill were watching the shootout.

Awesome. :thumbsu:

Come on now dt take you're medicine with a bit of style as Ponting's lot were just bullied & brutalized by those magnificent English cricketers. :)

Now that is funny. Nodster you last three words dont make sense. :p

You know that they have a new saying over there now, instead of saying
"Ah chewey on ya boot" it's now "lolly on ya balls." ;)

Disgruntled player drop one-line insults against former coached and clubs in every sport. Radio, Television and paper reports are very synonyms for having a jibe.

“Allen Scott you were wrong” comes to mind very quickly

That comment just shows how little you actually know about the game of football (soccer) and the Socceroos Jack. Ned Zelic publicly quit the Socceroos after having a disagreement over Frank Farina coaching style and ability to manage players. There was a genion dislike between the two gentlemen and Ned Zelic could have reminded the viewing public that Frank Farina didn’t have the ability to get the job done but GUUS was a world class coach.

Ned Zelic showed class as a commentator just has he has class as a football player.

You are comparing a national broadcast to unprofessional rabble of a club and a coach with massive ego problems. While this remark would of helped marks ego i'm sure he wouldnt of done it again if he had the chance too. Created alot of problems for the club and he had to go crawl back up to alan while he was on his death bed.

What comment exactly? No need to take cheap shots too, esp when you're wrong anyway as i was completely aware of that, i still wouldnt expect a player to bag a former coach on a national broadcast thats the bottom line. This doesnt get him points for a professional performance, not sure why you think it does. What he actually says adding to the commentary is what counts. Anyway overall simon hill great job, Foster some good tactical points but poor match commentating, les had a off night somewhat understandably (although they could of prepared some questions in advance maybe) and Neds comments were about as interesting as watching pain dry.

That works out to a qtr of the pop. of Oz watching the penalty shoot-out. Do those figures just include t.vs on becuase I would imagine that there were a lot more ppl out in pubs or at friends homes watching.

Include the ppl at the game, those outside the stadium those at fed. square.
Thats a few ppl. :)

No that only counts from the meters in peoples homes. So more watched at pubs, clubs, etc.

NEWS FLASH:

For those that are currently overseas. Tredrea and 30 mates watched the game from The Gimps pub. They thoroughly enjoyed it. Interesting ??? Our beloved Advertiser thought so.

Id say if you included all the people in pubs, soccer clubs, the Fed Square crowd, multiple people at houses etc. then there woulda been close to 10 million if not much more watching

Not really an interesting point. I thought everyone ever knew Treadrea was a 'soccer' fan.

If Soccer became the national sport, I will officially move to the United States, as they have numerous sports ahead of this garbage. But that’s not going to happen.

We're not worried mate. Soccer has a looooooooong way to go to catch AFL. A very long way.

If junior participation figures are anything to go by, combined with further world cup berths given our new route through Asia, the situation in the next 20-30 years might be interesting.

As I previously posted though, the A-League will never compete on an even keel with the AFL as the actual standard isn't world class - unlike Australia's other major sporting codes.

But, who knows.
