Starting to play some really good football.

He's been playing pretty well all year - it's just that he doesn't always get the credit he deserves.

I actually think Otto has been one of our best and most consistent players this year. All of his good and solid performances seemed to continually get crushed by the weight of expectation though.

He's had a fairly good year. He's certainly been better when King has played.
Yesterday he looked like he wanted to take a specky.

BTW chappymagic,it's not a good idea to start a thread about Ottens on the main board. It just drags out the usual trolls, most of which are probably banned from the Geelong section of Bigfooty.

Yep he's played well all year. He still gets rubbished by a few Geelong supporters who don't think he's kicking enough goals but over look the fact that he is rotated through the ruck and the delivery into the forward line at times this year have been very average.

I also think that with Mooney down there it has made a massive difference to Otten's game. Now the opposition defenders aren't sure where the ball will go when it is coming in long.

Good point! I still think he was a bargain - one draft pick and a superfluous midfielder. Been good all year - and has played every game.

It is starting to look like the work done off the ground paying dividends , he is showing signs of the type of agility that he had earlier in his career.
If we could manage to get the ball in his hands more he does certainly reward, two great setshots from what Id consider a less than 1 in 3 position. It really does show the importance of having forwards who have ultra solid goal kicking routine, chances are too few and only gained thru energy draining effort to have them wasted by guys who stuggle to do what they are in the side to do.

Top post.

I do think though the weight of expectation comes predominantly from the media who are quick to criticise by loathe to award any praise.

Considering he had no pre-season he's been pretty good this year.

I haven´t seen the game, currently in Europe on a hanghover from the World cup, but Otto has been very good this year, especially in the ruck when King has been down with injuries.

We knew when he arrived he wasn´t a matchwinner, he wasn´t up to the standard that all the other Geelong players were, hence his long preseason. This brought about a large amount of injuries to him, as his body wasn´t up to scratch.

He is now reaping that training, and looking the goods. In another 12 months with him and a young Hawkins, and maybe a fit Henry and Mooney scattering the packs we will be a massive team.

Plus with all these guys, the smaller ones get worse defenders, giving us a better chance to have Jnr and Chappy kick a few.

Otto has been the standout in the talls this year.

He was excellent against the Dogs earlier this year, and I don't have a bloody clue what we're going to do about him this time round. I hope Rocket does.

and I think that was without King playing.I have a feeling that we might not have had Blake in the team.

Even read Sheahan praising him recently. Ottens was/is money well spent and I think he isn't that far from showing his AA form. If we can make the finals he might be one player who can help us get far.

What excites me is that he seems to be getting better with each game and growing in confidence. I haven’t seen him move as freely as he did on the weekend since he arrived at the club (that snap goal in the first quarter when he read it off the pack and wheeled around to snap the goal was a gem!). He has obviously carried niggles and has lacked fitness throughout that time, but having played all 15 matches so far this year has built his fitness and confidence up nicely.

What happened...no richmond supporters posting yet? oh forgot...Ottens had a field day.
To be fair most of the thicker richmond supporters are banned.

The others, as you guessed, never show their faces after he has a good game.

Especially this year Rosella when you see Ottens playing consistantly and Moloney continuously being injured. However, Melbourne secured Matthew Bate with the number 13 draft pick who has been playing some solid football recently.

What has pick 13 got to do with it?

From gfc.com.au:

Brad Ottens - Traded by Richmond to Geelong in multi team deal. Geelong traded Brent Moloney to Melbourne for 12th selection in 2004 national draft, then traded the 12th & 16th selections in 2004 national draft to Richmond in exchange for Ottens.

Pick 16 was Adam Pattison.

I thought it was pick 12? Dean Polo? Either way I'm still happy with the deal.
Pick 12 = Danny Meyer
