It's kinda weird though, that he is such a predigious talent that I am expecting more and more each week of JJ. This kid could be anything I reckon. Give him another 30-40 games and he will be tearing games apart and kicking big bags.

He is a beautiful kick so not sure why he is kicking poorly, maybe just a bit of nerves and his own high expectations getting to him at the moment, but once he settles down and kicks one bag, others will follow I reckon.

He's looked so much better since he hasn't been rucking

He looks so much better since McKernan came back into the side. I'm not convinced but if Jenkins will make it will be as a permanent forward only.

I'm loving the way the kids, who have come in the last 12 months, play. Smith, Crouch (who must come back immediately if fit), Laird, Kerridge, Brown and Lyons may not be super athletes but they're natural footballers and hard at it.

Alot of things have gone wrong over the last 5 or so years (Neil Craig, Poor finals performances, shocking injuries, TRIGG) but our recruiting, and the type of player we recruit, has been exceptional.

As to the bolter this year - In my opinion the group pretty much comes down to - Crouch / Kerridge / Lyons / Brown.... I will put in my vote for Lyons.

All 4 have gotten games so happy with this call so far - even though the jury is still out with regards to Lyon becoming a bolter.

An 11 year veteran who has played 225 games can hardly be considered a bolter - but what about Stiffy Johncock? ...

. I am tipping him for a very good year.

Nailed it.

Otten at the moment.. Although if Kerridge continues his current form he will be strongly pushing... even Rory Laird is around the mark.

JJ = Buddy minus a cm of height, a tiny bit of pace, a bit of endurance, 100+ games being a top draft pick and a tonne of hype!

Thats a throwaway line by the way

But look at it, what is franklin lauded for? For being a tall who is dangerfield like in speed. What is josh jenkins? A tall with dangerfield like speed. People go on about franklin's booming left foot kick but from what I can see his range extends to a bit outside of 50 and that's about it, like a host of AFL players and I've seen jenkins kicking from that range look just as effective. Franklins skills arent sublime, i dont see him lacing out other players often. Franklin does have a good tank for sure and works players over, but Jenkins isnt far off in that regard. Jenkins leap is better than franklin and if he can get a leap his marks are a lot better than franklin, if its a body on body though, franklin is miles in front.

Question for me is, given three seasons, in how many areas can jenkins close the gap on him or pass him?

This is why I have high expectations for him.

So far they're being met.

I'm just enjoying the ride for the moment, I chuckle when he mucks up, which he's going to do a lot more yet. I'm just admiring the stats he's getting every now and then, 10+ marks on one occaision, six shots on goal on another, some fantastic pressure acts, some good moves into space, wait til he puts these together on a regular basis. As I said in the preseason thread, one day, he's going to be a major handful for opposition defences!

The major difference may well be in appearance Jenkin's run looks like a plod {which it isn't} whereas Franklin is a smooth mover -gees if JJ could replicate Buddy in a few areas that would be a massive win for us -his speccy on Sunday is the stuff that will escalate his confidence and make defenders shudder!
