winding the clock back 12mths. replay of round one 2025 observations

1. credit to ooze gave the newbies a go bauer & blight, macca and dow overlooked for 2026. steely, sonsie, tresize given a crack with the jury still out on them.

2. cripps scragged at stoppage, free kick carlton....taranto mauled and play on

3. 3 or 4 shocking decisions against us main culprit o'gormam

4. lalor touches considering his tender age similar to dusty, every touch worth 2 of everyone else.

5. lynch = vital cog

6. momentum and confidence in young team = 6 goals

7. accurate kicking is vital inaccurate kicking saps energy.

This is pretty close to what I expect the team to look like in round 1 (but it's best 23 not 24 ;)), although I wouldn't have 3 defenders on the bench. The 5 man bench gives the opportunity to name a 2nd ruck who I'd reckon would be Sims, possibly Ryan given the new ruck rules, so Banks or Trainor out and McAuliffe to the VFL (depth)

Thats why i think we will go back a step for a year or 2 before we go foward and 5 win season would be extremely hard to replicate. Which is fine as we are building from ground up and a rebuild never seen like what we have done.

I would say we are probably 7-8 players away from finishing this rebuild and will come to fruition after the retirements of
Lynch , Prestia , Broad , Nank , Short & Vlastuin in the next 2-3 years but the kids would have been developed and guided well by the experienced players on their last years.

Youre underestimating how shit West Coast, Melbourne and Essendon also are.

The development of the kids will offset the drop off from a few of the veterans IMO. Plus the gameplan should be more refined.

I think we'll end up with a similar amount of wins but hopefully a far better percentage.
