What has been our best game so far?

For mine it was the Ansett Cup final against Brisbane.
Not so much because we won, but because of the type of footy we played. Attack at all cost, and Dew still had his shooters license.
For a while after that game, no matter how far behind we got, you could sense that we could peg them back in less than a quarter.
If only we didn't revert back to Y2K.

Either Essendon R17, 2001, or Brisbane R22, 2002. This is how we need to play in finals.

v. West Coast Rd. 16 2003

We dominated the entire game and our physical pressure was as good as I've ever seen it (bar the "spear tackle" incident).

Ansett Cup Final 2001 was also fantastic.. thrashing Brisbane by 84 points and seeing Dewy kick 3 booming goals in 90 seconds.. doesn't get any better!

I must also make mention of the 2 or 3 Showdowns where we struggled for the first three quarters and then got over the line in the end...

...bitches.

Round 22, 2002.

Round 3, 1997 was pretty good though, everyone knew we had it won at half time which doesn't happen as often with the PAFC as it should.

Essendon 2001, ahh what a game, Guerra, Tredrae, Cornes!
the only game that i did not organise taping......................sob

Possibly the reason for the Guey_34 moniker, it's games like these that make you wonder why the guy wasn't given more time.

Oh and yeah, copies can be purchased of R17, 2001 from yours truly for $250 a pop ;)

The first great game we played would have been Bulldogs in 97 - the comeback game in Melbourne. 40 points down and to storm home like that you wouldnt have thought possible at 1.4 time.

Showdown 3 was also great with us coming from behind at 3/4 time, kicking 3 quick goals to get up. (probably Kingsleys best game for us too)

I liked how we played in the last showdown against the Crows in 2000. 9 goals up at 1/4 time, then letting them back in it only to bolt away again in the last quarter.

Essendon 2001 would definately be in my top 3 games. The only game i jumped up and down like a looney before that was when we beat Carlton after the siren the year before. But this game had it all. One of the all round best games ive been to. And GUERRA!!! The match winner really. 4 goals, 2 fantastic one handed marks. And Tredrea kicked the winner too, from a set shot, 30 metres out on an angle! Who woulda picked it! The third quarter was magic!

The Ansett Cup final of that yaer was great simply because it was a total romp. That 2nd quarter......Dew 3 goals in 21 seconds and then hitting the post another 20 seconds after that...in fact im gonna watch that bit again right this minute. My head nearly exploded at that moment.

West Coast in 2001 - the one at Subi, sorta woke me up to the fact that damn we have a pretty bloody good side and we could shake a few teams up.

Brisbane in 2002. The most pleasure ive had at an AFL game. The ending...undescribable how good it felt when the siren went. Probably the best game ive seen live.

Brisbane in 2003 at the Gabba. Another classic game of football.

Overall id have my top 3:
Brisbane 2002
Brisbane 2003
Essendon 2001

All very close together.

v Essendon 2001, I had never felt like such a winner before. No one ever bet Essendon then.
v Brisbane 2002, awesome end to an awesome game
v Brisbane, Ansett Cup 2001 - the mexican wave got me with that one, was great :D. It was like we knew there were good things to come that year (big improvement).

That's all that comes to mind at the moment. Everyone email Fox Footy and request all the classic games like I did! :)

For the game that had everything - the best two teams of that year, an awesome atmosphere and a game that had you on the edge of the seat at the end, I can't go past round 22 2002. I was expecting a good game, but our usual 30k type crowd. To get there and have 45k watching what to this point are clearly the top two teams of this decade battling for the minor premiership sent a shiver down the spine.

The other two that come close are vs. Brisbane and West Coast this year. Brisbane for taking it to the Lions on their own turf and never doubting we could win when we got behind - as the 20 odd lead changes showed. And versus West Coast for the sheer intensity. The passage of tackles in the third quarter is top of my list of highlights for the year.

Personally I'm of the opinion these three games should be compulsory viewing for each and every one of our players and coaching staff, before round 1, during the mid-season break and before each finals match. They each show everything that is right about our club and everything that happens when the team and coach sets out to win and win well.
