We've had better wins this season, and plenty of better ones in 2010. It was a great to see the intensity rise even with the injuries, but Brissy were pretty poor in the second half.

BPG, I always love your passion for the purple and continual support through the darkest hours, but you are way off the mark here. I agree with pretty much all the comments above. I think it was only a good win compared to our recent shambolic losses.

To be clear, I never said it was a beautiful game of perfect football, just that it was an incredibly gutsy performance and win.

Obviously you all thought it was a garbage win that was barely better than a loss??

Just to put my view into perspective, and frankly it is really a series of simple yes/ no questions:

For anyone out there, when was the last time we won with:

1. Two late with drawls of the quality of Barlow and MZ;
2. Our best defender in Elvis going down before halftime;
3. Our best ruckman going down before halftime;
4. A debutant and two players playing their first game for the year;
5. 6 changes to our lineup from last week;
6. coming off a 80+ point hiding;
7. on a less than 7 day break;
8. against a side with a better midfield and forward line;
9. when we had less tackles, contested possession, FF, and uncontested possessions at 3 quarter time; and
10. it was freakin raining??

Sorry, I forgot, we've been romping it in for the last 6 rounds, we have a legendary team which has been streeting it in all year with a percentage of over 170%, and we always win when we have two less players than the other mob!!

FFS, how about a bit of joy and perspective on this board??

Next week, we get Grover, Barlow, Zunga, Ballas AND Griff back - how good will we be then??

We trailed for most (if not all) of the first half, and when we sat back down for the second I said to my mate "I got a bad feeling about this".

We then went on to record a relatively comfortable and gutsy win, albeit against shyte opposition.

Maybe not the best win since...but I get what PBG is on about.:thumbsu:

Only part of your post you got right, it was a win that we should feel a BIT of joy but to keep in perspective the fact that Brisbane are 16th on the ladder. Best regular season win since 06? You are crazy.

Brisbane are a hell of a lot better than 16th on the ladder.

Regardless of that, I say again, can anyone name me the last time ANY Freo side won with the following facts:

1. Two late withdrawls of the quality of Barlow and MZ;
2. Our best defender in Elvis going down before halftime;
3. Our best ruckman going down before halftime;
4. A debutant and two players playing their first game for the year;
5. 6 changes to our lineup from last week;
6. coming off a 80+ point hiding;
7. on a less than 7 day break;
8. against a side with a better midfield and forward line;
9. when we had less tackles, contested possession, FF, and uncontested possessions at 3 quarter time; and
10. it was freakin raining??

So, when was it??

When have we ever won againsat such adversity before??

Go on, name a year, round and team??

Brisbane had the following players;
Raines
Hanley
Polkinhorne
Harwood
Retzlaff
McKeever
Golby
Karnezis
Sheldon
O'Brien
Bewick

Sorry but they are complete shit at the moment.

Oh sorry, I forgot, winning when down two of your top five players before half time is easy in any game, especially when you've been belted by 80+points the week before and you have a bunch of new players, we all just turn up, flick the switch and it is all easy. Come to that, actually, not only was it easy, we just didn't win easy enough, and frankly Mellington, Bradley, Clarke, Palmer and especially Mayne should all be dropped in favour of the genius that is Hinkley, Crichton and JVB.

If winning with so many (in game) injuries to our stars is so easy why haven't many sides done it this year, or at any point in the last decade??

Yep, no doubt, I was wrong, I'm crazy, I'm idiotic, that was just a run of the mill win, I'm completely over-reacting, that was nothing special, we all just shrug our shoulders and go on to the *inshurpasshablle* domination that has been so routine for our awesome club...

I agree totally with BPG... it was definitely our best win of the year. We're literally crippled at the moment, and yet we've somehow forged 7-6 a record. That record could have easily been reversed had the boys not showed so much heart tonight when the chips were down...

I understand what is being said but had it been any other team than Brisbane, they would have run over us in the third. I include Gold Coast and Port, they would have beaten us last night.

I hope that win though gives us a bit of confidence, we should beat Gold Coast, then the bye.

Gonna be tough from there on but as a supporter I understand that you can't have the injuries we have had and sustain the intensity that we need.

Good win but unfortunately I think it says more about our opposition (they stink) than us.

We are absolutely shit this season. If you rank that as one of your better wins since 2006 then I wouldn't hold much hope for the rest of your season.
You should probably take it a bit easier on the drugs champ.

This.

Freo still played like crap last night in parts of the game- not too much to get excited about apart from the 4 points

I agree with this. If we had've been playing away or against decent opposition we likely would have coughed it up. Glad we got away with the win, and had some good performances from the ins (Mellington and especially Silvagni). Glad that JVB and Crichton played no part.

Thought Zac played well in the ruck. Having him as a mid is a serious waste of time, and puts us at a disadvantage in clearances. Part of the reason that things improved there after Sandi went off.

I can see what BPG is trying to say. Should've completely put them away in the 4th considering we kicked 2.8? but it was definitely a "meh, at least we got a win" game.

I don't think I've ever read something from a fellow Freo supporter that made me so angry before. We bearly scrape over the line against the worst club in the competition who, like us, are missing some of their most important players (Clark and Banfield to name two that probably would've killed us in those conditions) and you're saying it's a good win? What is wrong with you?!?!?!?!?!? Accepting that sort of effort is nothing short of disgraceful and it's THAT sort of attitude that builds (sorry to use the C word here again peoples but...) a horrible culture of accepting the mediocre. Except here you're not just accepting the mediocre, you're putting it on a bloody pedastool!

I dislike the negativity sometimes too but it's not without its merits. That win was ugly and I'm happy to see we can win when we're missing our targets and 10 of our best 22 but come on, that was horrible. Just because we won through adversity doesn't make it good. Doesn't also mean that Brisbane wasn't faced with adversity as well. This would've been a very good win if it was at the GABBA but at Subi...no. I simply cannot and won't support anyone who tries telling me that was anything other than an expected win made look difficult.

Strewth first threads about hack easy beat Queenslanders, then naming our finals sides and now this? Seriously has everyone just simply forgot the last decade and a half? We may be in a new era but that's only a positive if both players and supporters have learned from the past.
