Best:

Melbourne: J Grimes J Trengove R Petterd C Sylvia B Miller M Bate L Jurrah J Frawley J Bennell.

Bate must have had an absolute cracker by the sounds of things :D

Interesting to see Jurrah found his way into the best, especially when you consider that later in the article the author argues that he was well held by the Essendon defence.

I didn't manage to get down to the game either, so I'm assuming there are further mistakes still in that assessment.

Seriously, what the **** is going on down there?

Amusing reading though :thumbsu:

That is poor journalism.

Our best were Grimes, Petterd, Sylvia and Frawley. No-one else really stood out (Though I liked Bail and Maric today).

EDIT - Morton didn't rack them up today as much as he has before but his efforts off the ball were fantastic and I am praying he hasn't hurt his knee. Very good signs from him.

Oh dear. The first 4 I have no problem with. Even Millsy battled hard and led up strong today. But LJ was smashed by Fletcher. He has a reasonable 3rd quarter, but that's all. Jamie is a fair bit off the pace at the moment and turned it over today. He gave away a goal with a TO at the start of the last that turned the momentum of the game.

How could they get is so wrong!?

Was Cheney playing today?

The reason why they got it so wrong is the reporter wasnt at the game

I suspect the reporter was also taking notice of the essendon twitter page as they had the Moloney goal credited to Jurrah

I wasnt at the game either but as far as i know Jurrah didnt kick a goal

Happy birthday RDB :thumbsu:

I thought that Trengove barely touched the thing? That's what I heard at least.

I couldn't believe the newspapers that said he was in the best. I was obviously interested to see how he went, & watched him closely. He did one beautiful inside 50 and had a couple of classy touches, but that was it. Very little impact, but not unexpected in a youngster

Even if you take out the Bate fiasco, having Miller, Bennell and Jurrah in there is an absolute joke.

Even Trengove would be lucky to sneak in.

This. :thumbsu:

Who ever put that list of best players together speaks utter horse shit. Should be fired on the spot.

It was an AAP wire report, I would be surprised if they were even there. Club Twitter feeds are the best thing that ever happened to lazy wire journalists.

Surely a real journo was there to do some sort of writeup?

The newspaper best are always a joke in prac games. I went down with a mate who barracks for Essendon and we both thought Jurrah got mauled by Fletcher. It's like the author doesn't know other MFC players names so just goes with Trengove ect. Same thing happened in Richmond v Geelong...apparently Cotchin was ok and they wrote he and Deledio tore it up lol they are a joke football journalists.

I liked Morton's game a lot. I haven't been impressed with him, but he looks a bit bigger & his work rate is excellent, so I may need to reassess

I read on another forum where you referred to Scully as "possible just an honest trier", or something very similar.

I'll be careful not to take too much notice of your comments in the future.

I though we played well considering that was virtually essendons best side.
We should have outscored them in the first quarter given we had mostof the ball.

Our bests were

Grimes
Petterd
Trengove
Sylvia
Bennell
Frawley

Bail tried hard and showed desperation but ran back with the flight into a good Jurrah lead and spoiled him.. which I was pretty pissed at..

The Morton injury was right in front of me and was disgusting to watch and hear...

Martins kicking was shocking..

Saw last half after getting off work, and at least our desperation and work rate when we didn't have the footy was better.

Disposal by foot let us down again. Not being able to hit a target when seemingly no pressure on is a concern.

Morton injury a blow - running with flight into contest.

At one stage we tackled, tackled, got the free kick and passed to Miller 30m out directly in front. Yep, missed. Gutwrenching. 30m directly in front should be automatic.

Saw Scully do a couple of nice in close handballs, but also saw him turn over by foot.

Considering we are generally poo, Essendon not much chop.
