I think my earlier post stands after today.

The young guys who lack experience were pretty much showed up today except Guthrie.

Our bottom 5-6 have to get better but that will only happen next season as they need games.

Walker is not senior standard yet- nor Caddy nor Blicavs nor Vardy. Maybe they will all come good but let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Let's see them really make a difference consistently before we thinks of them as senior players.

I think JHunt will replace Enright and GHS should replace Caddy. Unsure who will replace Walker.

Right now, who do you really think our bottom 6 are from the team that played on Saturday?

possibly, and I'm going out on a limb here, someone might - and I say might - mention Walker

Performance wise that game or in general?

Walker, Vardy, Varcoe, Blitz, Guthrie and Caddy are probably our bottom 6 in the side.... BUT from Saturday alone obviously Guthrie isn't in there and it's hard to fit the other 11 that were average into 1 spot

I'd say right now......

Walker, Lonergan, Kelly, Varcoe, Vardy, Caddy.

What do we lose by dropping any of them?
Do we have immediate replacements for all of them?

The answers are nothing and yes.

before responding, please list the 6 replacements

Based on Saturday Guthrie is closer to best 6 than bottom 6 now.

No problem:

Kersten, Brown (Taylor to full back, Rivers to CHB), Horlin-Smith, Murdoch, West, J.Hunt (Bartel to forward line).

Your turn.

like it, except not convinced about Brown over Lonergan. Especially if we get over Port and he plays on Buddy. Otherwise commend your selections.

Taylor to Schulz; Brown or Rivers to Westhoff. It could be done. But it won't be. And I'm not quite ready to write off Lonergan just yet. Made some stupid unforced mistakes (with the hanging on of Sandilands being the one that sticks out), but I think the tales of his decline have been slightly exaggerated.Even though I wouldn't be against Brown for Lonergan this week, it would be a brave man to leave Lonergan out for the Hawthorn game, if we're good enough to beat the Power.

Although Chris Scott's decisions to give Harry Taylor the #1 forward target over the past few weeks may have been telling...

He won't though. I'm not saying he necessarily plays the exact same role, I'm just talking ins and outs. Taylor would get Franklin, Rivers gets Roughead (or vice versa), and Brown gets Gunston. Similar physique to Gunston and probably a height advantage.

how the hell do you play on Godzilla? But I have to look at Hawthorn and Lonergan is a proven performer there. I would be crapping myself playing Brown on Buddy, and Taylor just cannot play on him.

It's more than Franklin though; Roughead has been the clear focal point for the Hawks throughout the season and Gunston has been a very dangerous third banana. Their set-up this year has shown that they could lose Franklin and possibly not miss a beat (especially if they pick up some immediate help with the money saved from Franklin's move). Would we trust Brown on him? I don't think there's a chance in hell of that happening. Taylor on Franklin; Rivers on Roughead, Brown on Gunston? Maybe next year. In September 2013, Lonergan has the runs on the board against Buddy and we simply have to roll the dice with him to do the job, if we get to the preliminary final.

we have always gone well with Harry on Roughie, and Loners on Franklin. I wouldn't fiddle with that atm. So Rivers on Gunston.

just the minor detail of Friday night first ..............

The warning signs have been there all season though, right back to Round 2 and 4 goals in a half against Petrie. Problem is the eternal one at footy clubs - when you've had success, weaknesses get overlooked and no one wants to face the truth that favourite sons are in decline.

Be a very interesting test of Scott's resolve this week at selection. I expect minimal changes.

I don't think he's as bad as people are suggesting though. If you look back to the times where his opponent has really got a hold of him this year, there hasn't been that many. Petrie, Liam Jones, Jeremy Cameron...who else? Tom Lynch? Travis Cloke (13 marks, but only one goal)? It's been clearly his worst year of the past four, but I still think he's been adequate.

The thing I see about changes this week as well is the fact that our borderline players all had a rest over the weekend and there isn't a major gap, if there's any at all, between what a number of them are capable of producing and what the incumbents in the team are doing. So, there's a bit of a dilemma about whether you stick with the same players and hope their performance improves, or take advantage of some of the fresh legs at our disposal and hope that gives us an edge on Friday night?

I know what I'd do, but I also know what footy clubs do - always trust those who in the past delivered. So there might be an inclusion or two but the same players will be kept in.

Back to Lonergan, I genuinely think he's declined just in the last month or so. I was shocked at the Sydney and Brisbane games at how much slower he looked than earlier in the year. The season could be catching up on him. Also, as I've said before, there's no rule that says the end comes neatly in early October. Could happen mid-season. It has for plenty. It certainly has for Bolton at Sydney.

I actually think he was looking really slow early in the season (getting consistently burnt on a lead), then he improved in the middle stages and regressed again.

Any of them? Probably nothing.

All of them? Stability, morale, finals experience, and the benefit of the fact that most of them will be embarassed and determined to make amends this week.

has been pansed every time he has tried. For some reason just doesn't match up on him. Need him on Roughy, who is a bigger threat and in better form anyway
