Did the club proud yesterday. :thumbsu: Outnumbered by Hawks fans but made twice as much noise regardless of the state of the scoreboard.

A stark contrast to the Hawks fans who only seemed to cheer when they got a goal or a free kick in front of the sticks. They only really found their voice in the last 5 minutes once victory was assured. Reminded me of the chant soccer fans taunt each other with - 'You only sing when you're winning'.

Awesome effort from everyone there to keep the Freo chant going for virtually the entire game, and I hope it came through as loud on the tv as it was at the ground. That third quarter was the most amazing atmosphere I've ever been part of, topping the prelim even.

We can't control what happens out on the field, but everyone who was there should feel justifiably proud of the great effort given in the stands. Well done to all. :thumbsu:

Why would we have been outnumbered by Hawks fans? Aren't tickets evenly distributed among both sides?

Our crowd was amazing yesterday though, the Freo chants were almost constant even when we were 4-5 goals down.

To be fair though I couldn't QUITE hear the volume over the telly because even though I was only watching the game with 15 or so people we all went ballistic in that 3rd quarter.

There were a lot more Hawthorn jumpers in the MCC and AFL member sections though.

all the hawks fans around me were just amazed at how loud and passionate we are - gained some respect by our never ending support.

Was a few classic moments walking around the G pre game when a lone "FRRREEEEOOOOOOO" would be yelled out to be followed by 100's joining in instantly in response - goose bump moments.

Oh, and if anyone knows the group of guys in M10 standing area who were belting out the EPL style songs for each of our players and coach can you get them to publish them on here and other forums so we can get to know the lyrics and belt them out at games, classic material but waaayyyyy too drunk to remember them today.

The most amusing thing for me is all these Melbourne footy types who seemed absolutely stunned that the Freo members of the crowd stuck around for the presentations - a lot of "I've never seen that before" reactions.

I just thought it was something that you do to show respect for the winners, and part of the Grand Final experience generally.

We were outnumbered, not surprisingly given that many of the MCC and AFL member allocations would have gone to Hawks fans. But I do think Vlad and most of the Melbourne media were genuinely surprised by the number of Fremantle supporters there, and our gracious behaviour has been very well received.

Of course, those of us already in the purple army knew all about this already. :)

Weren't they singing for Hawthorn? I remember "All you need is (Love) Rough"

Although I did hear Oh My Darling Ballantyne on the walk to the game!

I mentioned in another post (my day at the MCG ) that the predominantly hawks-filled standing block next to ours, which was M10 did have a few EPL style songs for their guys too. The roughie one definitely got a thrashing as did a Cyril Rioli number. They had the whole block singing in unison, pretty awesome to hear.
Our songs were pretty good but only had about 4 blokes that knew the lyrics

They had a "Breust -There it is.." thing going too

Not sure if I'm a 'Melbourne footy type' whatever that is, and I wasn't stunned, but yeah that was the first time I've seen the place still full for the presentation. Normally the losing team's fans start going (I never do) and you can make your way down closer to the fence and see the cup up close as it comes by.

So much for Demitriou and his Freo supporters wont turn up
It was only the third time a 100000 crowd attended involving a non Vic team:thumbsu:

Actually it was the only time they have had 100K for a non Vic team!
Since the redevelopment they've cracked 100K 3 out of 8 GFs, 08,10,13 but the others aren't far behind.
And I don't think Andy D ever said that, he just said it was difficult to come.

The lifting of the cup is a pretty historical moment even if it's not your team, I don't see why anybody would want to miss it. Especially when youve paid hundreds for a ticket.

I just couldn't do it. No disrespect to Hawthorn intended, but I felt shit enough at the final siren without having to watch that.

But for the 48 hours before, Melbourne was a ****ing epic place.

You were obviously in M10?

I stayed until the bitter end. Luckily old Hodgey's a good guy and sang some Freo praises, and most Hawks fans were sympathetic to us Dockers standing around. It was a desolated feeling, really empty and jealous, but why not stay?

Good club are Hawthorn.

But good supporters are Freo. The way everyone bandied together was good to see, the way people patronised the events and wore purple from Thursday onwards was great. It made me really proud of where I come from.

noticed they were very quiet until they were confident they were going to win. Was proud of all the purple i saw in Melbourne again today and on the flight home.

I wish there were more at Subi for their homecoming, but I think a lot (like us) were trying to get back from Melbourne.

You guys tripped me out.... i thought you guys would shut up once we hit a few goals in front... but nup.

I remember back in 1999 Jason Dunstalls last game @ Waverly... The Fremantle cheer squad starting the Dunstall chant.

Would love to see you guys in a local derby.

Respect!!!

The Hawks supporters in the bay next to M10 were great with their soccer style chants. Some of the chants were a little hard to understand but they sure as hell were entertaining.

It was great to see Freo fans continuing to make noise even though we were trailing and really, the crowd was fantastic.

The Freo invasion of Melbourne will be talked about for a long time to come :D

Now back to reality here in Melbourne :(

Apart from that Hawthorn knob who eventually got booted out.

I think he happened to talk himself into that one and I certainly got a small sense of satisfaction from that. If you're going to try and antagonise the opposition supporters, don't be surprised if they throw abuse back at you. Usually the supporters that retaliate get in trouble but good to see MCG security showed common sense. The only reason I say that is under the retaliation rule, I might've gotten the boot :o

We were the same. Stayed long enough to hear the captains' speeches and to see whether they gave Mundy the Norm Smith like they should have, but once they started giving the other medals out we bailed.

All I could think of was the grand finals I'd watched on tv where they roared for every individual player and I just couldn't handle that in the fragile state of mind I was in. We went to that bar by the river to drown our sorrows instead.

Nice...Were you the lad getting stuck into nicholls?

That was every Freo supporter surely?

Felt like every time we got close enough to threaten he pulled out a bullshit free kick to kill our momentum. Should have chucked a Hawthorn jumper on him after the game and given him the Norm Smith.
