Went to the game tonight. Bloody awesome win. Just want to mention how good our defensive pressure was. We just would not let the Hawks away and they just couldn't shake us off.

Davey is a freak at running people down.

Daveys best game of the year.. part of the reason we won by such a margin really. Our defence has been rebuilt in astonishing fashion this year. Pears, Hooker, Daniher, Hurley, all new there this year. Just how good is Hooker? His composure is awesome. Dempsey although not a new recruit, is so new to the Bombers becuase he has played only 17 games for us. We could rate in the top 4 defensively by the years end if we can keep this back 6 together ( Change Hurley for Myers ).

I must say i dsagree about Davey. He did and has been working his arse off all year putting pressure on, however his disposal tonight was not up to scratch.

Our defensive pressure was outstanding and was an area in which needed to really be focussed on to reduce the run & carry the likes of Bateman, Hodge, etc brang to the Hawthorn army. Great all-round performance tonight, great commitment shown by the boys. :thumbsu:

Have to agree. He did a heap of great work and got into a lot of great positions, but his final passes and shots let him down a number of times.

I have to say, Im a little confused to see Houli listed as one of our 'Best' players. Sure, he got the pill and ran it out, but his disposal and decision making, especially earlier on in the game left much to be desired. I thought Zaharakis was much better, even being only his first season at senior level.

Couldnt agree more! :thumbsu:

I agree that his disposal wasn't that great but I dont think that his disposal has been that great all year.

His tackling today and pressure at the opposition ball carrier was better than previous weeks. He's in the team primarily for this. It may not always result in a direct stat, it stresses the opposition ball carriers to the extent that they rush a kick/hb off that creates a turn over.

Also saw Davey put his body on the line tonight many times. I note against Buddy on the win in the third towards end of the Qrt. Got under Buddy to flick the ball to Houli. Twas a massive effort given that he is perhaps 35KG less weight going at him at near full pace. Remeber force = Mass x Speed ! ( I think )

I will stand by my comments & say that this was his best game for the season & moderate this by saying that his disposal for most of the year has been just ok.

Houli turnovers/mistakes resulted in two goals in the first half that I noticed. His handpassing is still sometimes questionable (which has always been my big complaint about him).

But some of his kicking was really good. Long and hitting targets.

Zaharakis... lol? He was 44% effective. Houli was 80%.

The Zaharakis love in is funny. I like the kid and think he'll be a player, but he's close to the first guy going back to the reserves once Prismall, McVeigh, Reimers, and Welsh get back in.

Both Zaka & Houli played pretty good games although both make mistakes, perhaps Zaka got more important touches though..Zaka's goal against the Pies cements his place in the Dons Pysche till the end of the year. On appearances all our disposal was perhaps the best it has been all year, no I have not seen the stats on that.

Injury dependent I dont see many changes to this side next week, may be Myers out for Hurley. But I am not sure about that. I would perservere with both Zaka and Hiouli. Both added a lot to our mid rotations and also stepped up at important moments during da game.

Agree.

His ball handling and possession were below avarage but his work rate was phenomenal.

I posted after Round 5 that improved defensive actions have helped the defence.

This is reflected in the defence conceding less points against.

Great defensive pressure, Pears and Hooker were fantatic:)

While zaka got more important touches, he was wasteful at goal. Houli wasn't fantastic but his kicking was good.

Houli was a completely different player to the one we saw against Port Adelaide - sure he made some mistakes but his kicking was superb, if he can eradicate his handballs to teammates under pressure then he will develop into some player.
