Yeah that's got me stumped too. It looks like he he had a weird career prior to being drafted. He's listed as an ex-Falcon, but he was drafted from Norwood at age 20. Meaning if he nominated for the draft when he was a Falcon, he was overlooked by every team, went to SA and was drafted at #2 when he was 20 years old. More likely I'm tipping he was born in SA, lived in Geelong for some of his teenage years (maybe playing U15/16 with the Falcons), before returning to SA and playing U18 and a bit of senior footy with Norwood, then getting drafted.

Unless I'm missing something, we couldn't have taken him F-S either. If he was eligible to be F-S with Geelong, I don't see why we wouldn't have done it. Even if we weren't sold on him as a player, it's getting a top 5 recruit for the cost of a 40-something pick.

Tim McGrath.
To be fair, he did have to play on the games best ever CHF in Carey...

Doesn't excuse the 'squibness' though.. :thumbsd:
Constantly toweled by Dunstall, Loewe & Brereton.

Really? It's a physical game. At least it used to be.

You want to see a harder hit than that - type in "Ray Card Keith Greig" in YouTube. That's my all-time favourite.

I don't. If it's a fair contest, fine, hit them as hard as you can. But there's no place for what Milburn did that day in football. Just my opinion.

Wasn't a dud:

Runner up best and fairest 1992
3rd best and fairest 1993, 1999
Best clubman 1993, 1997, 2001
Most determined and most dedicated player 1992, 1999

and we didn't trade or delist him.

Was still made a bitch by afore mentioned players on a regular basis.
+ Carey...

Bluey did give away a fair bit in height and weight to all those guys mentioned. Better suited as a HBF than a CHB

leave bluey alone he along with sholl were great pick ups thanks north. What about the bizz Clint bizzel really didn't set the world on fire at the cats.l remember him playing a game V's the dons he was tearing it up early at full forward.once he left l thought he was solid for the demons.

Yes he grew up in Geelong but I don't think he was ever at the club.

We definitely had Primus on the list in 1992 because he was in a H-S grand final team photo back when they would put a colour insert into a B&W paper, and played a few games in the Geelong reserves. I'm not sure what happened for him to leave but he disappeared for a couple of years (when he was in the SANFL) and then was drafted by Fitzroy in about 1995 and we know the rest from there.

He would have been 17 in 1992, pretty young to be playing reserves (when the under-18 TAC Cup was running at that stage).

He couldn't have played for the Falcons and been on Geelong's list in 1992. The TAC Cup started in 1992. In the early days though, I think most weeks a few players would be called up to random reserves teams to have a run, but I don't think that would have been enough for him to get his mug in the paper for a senior final, or for him to be a part of the senior team photo at the time.

I wish I had the picture here but it's somewhere at my parent's house. I did find this though, take it as you will:

The Geelong Football Club missed the opportunity to recruit Primus, as he had played for the Geelong Falcons and in the Geelong Reserves, but despite also being the grandson of all time Champion and AFL Hall of Fame inductee Reg Hickey, the Cats overlooked his talent.

Also the team photo wasn't a special one taken for the grand final, it was one of those "whole team" ones from the start of the year with all the random kids on it. I think it had Ben Graham as a very young player as well in it.

Fair enough. The whole thing's making my head hurt, I can't understand how Primus could belong to all these teams. From what I know, players could be called up to AFL Reserves from the TAC Cup, but they could go to multiple teams in a single year, i.e. no single team 'owned' them and they'd barely spend enough time there for a cup of coffee. Maybe Geelong and the Falcons were directly aligned, while the other TAC teams' players just went wherever they needed a few numbers. I don't know.

I can't say I'm too familiar with the rules of the early 90s either, I remember there was a big revamp of the whole system about the time the TAC comp started and a lot of it went over my head. Keeping in mind that Milburn apparently played for the Collingwood and Sydney reserves in 1995 prior to being drafted with us, there were a lot of things going on then that we would find odd now.
