Thompson will be in the rookie draft. No club will take a risk on him in the national draft
I think he is to old to rookie. correct me if i am wrong. I rate the bloke very highly i wouldnt care if geelong drafted him with our 2nd pick. He seems to have everything that we need. Great spoiler and seems to have an excellent kick dare i say better than Scarlett.

If they up grade Grima and Lonners they would then have to de-list 5 players!!
The 5 most likely IMO are Spencer,Gardiner,Playfair,S.Hunt and either Owen (draft back as a Rookie) or D.Johnson who did himself no favours last week.
Add Callan into that. At best we're either getting a higher third round pick (presumably won't use the other?), at worst a forth rounder we won't use.

need to draft collier, veszpremi and simpson somehow

Collier (CHB/utility) and Simpson (giant ruckman) I can understand, but why do we need Veszpremi?

My opinion:

If we trade King, first pick should be used on McEvoy if still available, or Bellchambers if not.
If we don't trade King, first pick should be used on best available key defender. One of Rance, Pears, Myers, Collier or Gaertner (roughly in that order) should be available and would be a good choice.

Second pick could be used on more of a project player. There are a couple of tall, quick athletic freaks that could be anything, and we are one club that has the depth to spend a couple of years trying to develop them. I'm thinking Gaertner, Kangars or Otten.
Alternatively, could pick up a depth midfielder. Have heard that the club has talked to Aaron Joseph from Tassie, who sounds like the sort of player that would appeal to Stephen Wells and could be a good pickup at #34.

Third round likely to be Scott Thompson, if you listen to the majority of punters here. I likek the kid and think he would be a good pick up, although not sure we need to go this early. On the other hand, shallow draft and he is likely to be a better bet than any 17yo kid we pick up here. Happy to go with it.

Fourth round is Adam Donohue. We can't afford more than four picks, and he is locked in for our last.

Would promote Lonergan and Grima. Fairly sure we still only have one player - Dasher - who qualifies for veteran status next year, so we can still have a nominated rookie. Davenport is the obvious choice, and by using him this way he is still eligible for senior selection but it is one less we have to delist. If this is not the case we should elevate him too - definitely got to give him a go in the ones next year.

Speaking of delistings, assuming Callan is our only trade (for the Donohue pick), we need to lose five. I think they will be Playfair, Gardiner, Spencer, S Hunt and probably Owen. To be honest I would rather see Shannon Byrnes go than Owen, but I just don't think we will do that now he is a premiership player. Could re-rookie Owen potentially if the rules allow (not sure they do) and we rate him enough. Not fussed personally.

Obviously rookie list would be Davenport, Bedford, and two others. I would really like to see a project ruckman there. I saw someone mention Smouha, who might be a decent choice given his athelticism although I'm concerned he might be short (196cm). My ideal choice would be a very raw, athletic 200cm+ high-risk high-reward kid who will need 3-4 years in the VFL to come on. The other could be Owen, or it could be another fairly raw medium sized kid.

According to Cats Claw it was reported in the Tassie papers today that GFC has had discussions with a kid called Aaron Joseph.

Here's what I know so far:

178cm
75kg
Glenorchy Tas.

Draft camp results:
1st, Agility test (7.91s)
=4th, 20m sprint (2.91s)

Commentary:
"Tasmania’s best midfielder who performed well at the Champs. He is good at the clearances and has good hands. Gets the ball inside 50 from the middle fairly often. Works really hard all day. Isn’t quick but he can hit targets."

Sounds quite good to me. (Whoever wrote he wasn't quick might have been surprised at 2.91 in 20m sprint at the draft camp.)

Can anyone give any further info on him? Has anyone actually seen him play?

You can be any age to be a rookie, as long as you haven't spent time on any other teams AFL list.

Aaron Joseph
Recruiter 1: Joseph was another player who worked really hard, particularly around the stoppages. He was the main player in close for them.

Recruiter 2: I thought Joseph was the best player for Tasmania. I liked the way he put his head over the ball and set up the play. He worked pretty hard, although I'm not sure if he's going to be to tall enough to genuinely play through the midfield.

Thanks.

Not sure about this comment. Perhaps we might not want to play him and Shannon Byrnes in the same team, but I think that shouldn't be a problem (would get rid of Byrnes!).

If his listed height of 178cm is right then surely that is no problem. Check this list:

177cm or less:
Jason Akermanis
David Wirrpanda
Michael Braun
Shane Crawford
Brent Harvey
David Rodan
Peter Bell
Heath Black
Alwyn Davey
Aaron Davey
Jared Crouch
Nathan Foley

178cm
Daniel Kerr
Scott West
Tyson Edwards
Josh Carr

179cm
Chappy
Ben Cousins
Danyle Pearce

There's plenty of others I've missed but that should at least give you an idea.

And given he's only a kid he almost certainly has a couple of cms growth left in him - I would expect him to hit 180cm by the time he's 20.

In regards to to thread title, I hope it's Collier that we draft, I really like him.

As for Veszpremi, I don't think we will be able to get him before another club drafts him.

The more I hear about him, the more I like David Myers. All Australian U/18 this year, Barassi medallist last year, leader of the dominant WA backline at the champs. Good skills, very flexible with the ability to hold down a key defensive post or to go up on to a wing and run rampant. Excellent leadership abilities, a natural footballer.

Sounds like the sort of player Wellsy would like - an adaptable utility that can be used in a variety of roles as the situation demands it, along the lines of Milburn (who we will need to replace in the next couple of years) and Mackie.

May be gone by pick #17, but if not would be a very, very good pick up.
