We all know our defence is struggling and our midfield is woeful one minute dynamic the next but our main problem without a doubt is our ability to kick a winning score.

Look at our scores for the first seven games of the year.
  • Round 1 - 7.7.49
  • Round 2 - 13.11.89
  • Round 3 - 19.11.125
  • Round 4 - 16.16.112
  • Round 5 - 11.4.70
  • Round 6 - 10.10.70
  • Round 7 - 7.8.50

This makes a total of 83.67.565 and an average of 12.10.82.

Hardly a winning score. We have problems with getting goals and with Cummings out that leaves Wilson and Joey are only real threats at goal .... where are they going to come from. Add to that Merenda is gone for a couple of weeks and he always got 1 a game sometimes 2.

This is a big problem, any ideas how we could fix it?

recruit some ready made forwards from other clubs... its time for our team to get serious and start going for those good players who are out of contract, unhappy at their club etc.....

or, if thats not an option, its time for our midfielders to be given a free reign to run forward and kick goals....

What we lack is a forward line. What the eagles should employ is an attacking midfield. Get our best players into midfield pumping the ball at goals at such a rate that the opposition will be over whelmed. And we are capable of a strong midfield, Cousins, Braun, Wirrpunda, Morrison, Kerr, Gardiner, Kemp, Banfield, Matera, Chambers, Fletcher.

And play without a half forward line, this would give space for our midfielders to run into the forward line, and where they fail in scoring we should have Wilson and Joey playing out of the goal square.

This would free up a few players to flood our defense rather than stand in the forward line and watch the opposition score on the otherside of the field.

Hows that for an alternative to our scoring troubles

But what odds do you think we have of snapping them up before the season ends??

We need a solution now, because i don't want us winning the wooden spoon.

Mark Merenda was probably recruited to be the type of player who would 'snap' shots at goal and in a few games he did fill this role. Unfortunately injury has hit him yet again, so we do need some quick replacements.

A few players that spring to mind:
Kane Munro
Adam Hunter
Peter Matera & Phil
Dean Kemp (is a goalkicker and if he finds the midfield too tough, he should be given a chance in the forward line).

Handy Andy is just that... a really useful player all over the ground...

One of the best kicks in the team, and a good strong mark.

That doesn't really add to the topic though, just letting you all know im an Andy-fan ;)
